Disappointed in this stay. Andrew replied to my request with initial confirmation, and very brief instructions that the front door was open and first bedroom down the stairs was mine. He gave no other information and no follow up messages even though I messaged twice on the way there about later evening arrival time. Upon arrival there was no one in the house, and I had the uneasy feeling of going into a home in the dark that wasn't mine. If it hadn't been so late and I hadn't been in the middle of nowhere I may not have gone in at all, but was rather desperate for some rest. As I arrived about 10:30 or 11 pm, I didn't know if someone was sleeping in the house down the hall or upstairs, and if I might wake someone up. I expected the host to be there, and didn't know if he was coming later, if others would be in the house or coming, or what I could use/house rules (there was no note or anything), so I confined myself to my very sparse (but clean) bedroom, the bathroom, and a water glass from the kitchen. Needed internet but no PW had been given in advance and could not get on, which was a problem because my access in this rugged area of Ontario was very limited (no smartphone) and I needed to plan my next couple nights and communicate with home. No one ever did come that night or the next morning, and I left in the morning after a glass of water for breakfast, without speaking to anyone or getting any hoped for guidance for the road ahead (was on Lake Superior Circle Tour by motorcycle). Not the kind of experience I expected, especially as the room price was also very high for this type of situation (twice what I paid the night before for Airbnb in Ontario). Andrew is probably a nice guy, although I never met or spoke with him, and did send a very short message after I left asking if things were ok, but I wished he had communicated more in advance, and had let me know that no one would be in the house and what I could use.
