Sun drenched in French charm, and built in 1910, this beautifully restored gem, Tres Jolie Studio, is located on a quiet, dead end street down a long tree lined, private driveway, yet right in town. Once a short term rental, now a 30 day or longer rental due to new Santa Barbara short term rental regulations, this spacious one room, fully furnished studio apartment is upstairs, a legal second residence attached to my home, yet completely separate and private, with it's own private entrance and balcony patio. Surrounded by private gardens, oak trees, fountain courtyard and privacy you will relish the serenity, quiet and beauty of your surroundings from inside the apartment or from the tree top private patio: no noisy neighbors,(with thick lathe and plaster and stone walls), you will hear no traffic noise, just the gardens, red tailed hawks calling, birdsong, and the calming garden fountain where goldfinch, grosbeaks, bluejays, Kingbirds, Phoebe flycatchers, hummingbirds, honey bees, monarch butterflies and many more come to drink throughout the day.
There is abundant free street parking right at the driveway entrance, and up close and on site parking can always be arranged for special circumstances especially for elderly or families with small children. RIDE A BIKE TO TOWN! Mountain/town bicycles are provided to ride to town, the beach, nearby brewery and winery tasting houses, the Mission, Natural History Museum, The Santa Barbara Harbor, Tuesday or Saturday Farmer's market etc. Don't miss our Tuesday Farmer's market on State Street from 3-6 during the winter and 4-7 spring/summer.
TAKE A WALK TO TOWN! 20 minute walk to the Mission, 10/15 minutes to the Arlington Theater and Downtown, and most of the best restaurants in Santa Barbara, 5 minutes to the Santa Barbara County Bowl.(You might want to check their schedule, (URL HIDDEN) , and go see a show in the gorgeously renovated, natural setting of the Bowl.) 10/15 min. walk to State Street then catch the 50 cent Electric bus down State Street to the Paseo Nuevo Mall, or walk there, the Wharf, SB Harbor and beaches and the Sunday beachfront Art walk.
Tres Jolie is a short walk or a two minute drive to the theater/arts zone of Santa Barbara and most of the best restaurants in our town. CaDario on the corner of Victoria and Anacapa, my fave, is just a 10 minute walk..we go all the time. One block down Olio e Limone, Le Bouchon, Sama Sama, (hipster hot spot/ cuisine treat a la fusion Indonesian/farm to table style with unusual cocktails with regular pop up chef/artist events.), and up State half a block: Janes, Downey's, Carlitos. Or have breakie at Crush, next door to Crushcakes, on the next corner up...or another breakfast fave and a sweet bike ride or walk is Renaud's, our wonderful French bakery, a few doors down from Crush, and across the street. Opened recently is the breakfast and lunch new favorite for the young and savvy on the corner of De La Guerra and Milpas:The Shop. We've been walking there all summer. They have a changing menu of farmer's market fresh offerings, home smoked salmon, burgers, wraps, sandwiches, gorgeous and unusual farmer's market salads, all kinds of good things including organic coffee, fresh juice, home made yoghurt and the best pommes frites outside of Cafe Amour in Montmart, and even better, their crunchy onion shavings. It's a nice walk from the house and guests have been enjoying it. One and a half blocks further down on Milpas street is probably the best Mexican food in the U.S., and some of the best in MesoAmerica, La Taqueria Superica. It's on the corner of Alphonse and Milpas between Ortega and Cota. It was Julia Childs' secret, and is everyone else's too.
If you love Japanese, just a few doors down from Victoria on State is Arigato, the number one sushi spot for the young and old foodies alike. All top quality places, some Michelin and many Zagat rated, with charm and goodness!
Now open is the long awaited Santa Barbara Public Market, a european style open market with locally sourced, produced and organic foods, produce, seafood, meat, cheeses, food stalls, unique boutique shops, just down the street on Victoria on the other side of State Street and just around the corner from The Arlington Theater! For seafood you can't beat Brophy's Brothers down at the Harbor and The Shellfish Company at the end of the Wharf both, favorite local secrets for fresh seafood.
RETURN HOME AT THE END OF THE DAY TO PURE TRANQUILITY...beware, you may want to just hang at Tres Jolie and truly relax...........
