The not-so-amazing Kamala villa
We were a group of six fun-loving girls looking for a relaxing weekend away in Phuket, hoping to stay at (what looked like) a fantastic villa. Having been in contact with Joseph leading up to our holiday we already had a few doubts due to his harsh phone manner and abrupt email response although he did reply to emails within 24 hours.
Nothing quite prepared us for what an obnoxious man Joseph was. He had asked us to meet him at Fantasea, a resort less than 200M from the villa. He arrived on his motorbike with no greeting whatsoever, and said, “You need your taxi because we’re driving there. Get another taxi”. Quite surprised at the rudeness, we reluctantly got in another taxi that drove us 200M down the road. We assumed he was going to pay because of the mishap instead he strode up to the front door and clearly wasn’t going to pay the poor taxi man. We said to him in a polite but firm manner, “It would be great if you could pay the taxi, because the way you described getting to the villa was walking, not getting a taxi for 200M”
Joseph lost his nut. He suddenly shouted, “I will not pay for your f***ing taxi, & to be honest, you girls have been the biggest pain in the butt since you booked the villa, and you’re only here for a two-night stay I’ve been doing this for 10 years & I’ve never had more difficult customers.” To clarify, all we had asked him in the weeks leading up to the holiday was if villa supplied shower bits and if he could possibly buy some soft drinks and have them in the fridge for our arrival. We were COMPLETELY taken aback by the rudeness & made us feel incredibly uncomfortable.
Due to it already being 11pm we had little choice but to stay.
The villa was dirty & the towels weren’t fresh. On day of check out the cleaner came rather early for the advertised ‘flexible check-out time’ window. One girl unfortunately left her top in the villa and was devastated when it went missing just two hours after we had checked out. We didn’t even look at the pool, because surrounding the pool was rubble and dirt. The place has potential but really needs some TLC.
On the plus side the villa was literally 2 minutes from a lovely beach although it really was a matter of sprinting across in between the traffic. Joseph did warn us that there had been several burglaries in the area and that we should made sure to the lock the door when we leave. And when one of the bedroom doors slammed shut and locked itself he did come over to unlock it for us.
Apart from these small gestures we found being around Joseph very uncomfortable and the villa rather over-priced for what it actually was.
