Le logement

Hi there, we're a homestay option a few hours from machu Picchu and a great place to start or end your journey to the Inca Ruins.

We have already had some fantastic airbnb guests this year. We're also almost done with some important renovations....first exciting news HOT SHOWER! Yes, we're excited too. Also, we've got two doubles and a new single room almost finished so we can make repairs on the other buildings.

This room is for 1 person and is private. Facilities: outdoor bar, campsite with adobe oven and a grill. Hammocks, two rivers, our farm to explore, roast your own coffee or chocolate. Eat with the family, speak some Spanish and all a few hours walk from Machu Picchu. Package deals for Dinner, bed and breakfast.

We're constantly renovating and upgrading our garden and facilities. Recently we added a new grill up at the main house and we're about to start work on a new toilet block right next to the original guest rooms. The plunge pool still hasn't happened....we'll get there eventually.

A stay with us is a rare and individual experience of Peruvian family life in the countryside where most people make their living from agriculture. We are nestled down by the river in a stunning valley with waterfalls and tributaries winding their way through the tropical vegetation. We have optional workshops such as coffee and cocoa roasting for you to take away some of your own organic presents for friends and family; and there is the chance to take local walks and visit our farm and see how locals experience this landscape.

Essentially, a stay with us is what you want it to be. We may just be a convenient stopping-off point or perhaps a chance for you to experience living in a place cut-off from the main arteries of Peruvian tourism. Whatever your reasons for visiting we're sure you'll love it here.

Accès des voyageurs

Access to main house, shared common room and bathroom from room. Gardens, dining room, patio and the forest beyond.

We are always somewherre near and love to chat but we're equally aware that some people want to relax and just read without being disturbed. We're happy to be as visible or invisible as you want and there's plenty of space if that's what you need. Just let us know :)

Autres remarques

We're farmers so sometimes we're not at the house and we don't always have a chance to get to internet to check emails. We have on occasion found people waiting for us at the house after a day on the farm and luckily everyone has been wonderful about it, but we do ask you to make sure you let us know your rough time of arrival so we're there to meet you :)

We spent 2 amazing days at Yellow River! The room is beautiful, so quiet, among the trees and plants. Svetlana and her family are interesting, very nice and helping. The food is delicious, the activities (we made the farm tour and the coffee roasting) are great. We felt at home. Our best days in Peru. Thank you again Svetlana!

We had the best experience in yellow River. Before our arrival Svetlana and Andrew were extremely helpful in assisting us with finding the place. Once we arrived, Tatiana and her dad were there to greet us. We ate the best food in Peru here which was all farm grown. Our favorite moments including going to the river and laying on the hammock to relax at the end of the night. This was definitely one of the highlights of my Peru trip. We stayed here day after our MP trip so if you can swing, I recommend it.

Living where we do is made all the more interesting by meeting our lovely guests and it enriches the experience for the family as we learn about new parts of the world and get to chat about our different lives. We appreciate you making the trip to stay with us and hope that you have a great 2016.

Why didn't I stay longer?! Staying with Tatiana, Svetlana and their family was such a warm, educational, and lovely experience! I spent a day on their family farm, built on the mountainside, harvesting bananas, coffee, cacao and flowers. We also roasted coffee and cacao beans, which I am taking home to share. Svetlana's cooking was honestly the best food I've had in a long time, all fresh, local, whole ingredients, and mostly vegetarian, which is my preference. You must visit here, but if you can, spend a week, I wish I had! (But at least 2 nights so you get a full day)

For folks with short attention span and TL; DR folks: Highly highly recommended. Staying at Andrew’s place was an amazing experience. Andrew and Tatiana are very warm and welcoming hosts. The location & surroundings are beautiful, hosts are great, homemade food is fantastic. If you have an extra day make sure to stay at Andrew’s; if you don't have an extra day, you seriously need to re-plan your itinerary and squeeze at-least a day worth of stay at Andrew’s. ………………….. Longer Version: My stay at Andrew’s place was my best AirBnB experience until now. Knowing that it will be super long day hiking from Aguas Calintes to Machupicchu to Montána Machu Picchu and back to HydroElectica, I still decided to book Andrew’s place as that was the only day I could squeeze in my stay. Deciding to stay at Andrew’s place was the best decision and the stay itself was the best experience of my Peru trip. Words and pictures do not do justice in framing the experience you are signing up for. You have to travel there and be there to feel it. Andrew & Tatiana are very warm and welcoming hosts. As mentioned in the listing, it is truly a homestay. You get to spend time with the Andrew, Tatiana, Maya, pets and possibly other extended family members; share you experience and gain knowledge from their experiences. The night I was there, Tatiana’s family was there too and I had the luxury of having homemade pizza which Tatiana’s brother baked. We all sat on the dining table and had our dinner together. I felt privileged. I woke up next morning with the sound of light rain falling on/off the leaves of trees around the house which I don’t get to hear much as a urban dweller. The plan for the day was to hike to hot springs in Saint Teresa. We (myself, Anika & Philippe - fellow travelers) had delicious homemade breakfast (fruit juice from fruits picked from backyard, avocado from the avocado tree next to kitchen, coffee from the beans are from their own farms and perfectly roasted at home, yams, cheese etc etc.) before starting our hike. Andrew is very good in giving directions and his handmade map has every details we needed to reach the hot springs.. I had to leave for Cusco that day but at the same time I wanted to spend as much time as possible in Quellomayo. I had to leave before twilight to make sure I get a ride to Cusco. Overall, it was a very unique and amazing experience. I would highly recommend Andrew’s place to anyone traveling in that area. The longer the stay the better :). Thanks Andrew and Tatiana for everything. Till next time !!

Nishant, that's more than lovely, thank you for your kind words. You were just as lovely yourself and we enjoyed meeting you and having you in our home. We truly enjoy what we do and it is always nice when someone likes our little slice of life down by the river. We wish you all the best in everything back in the States and hope one day to be able to visit and say hello. Love from the family.

Yellow river was great and off the grid. It was exciting to get there. It was so quiet and a breath of literally fresh air away from the city and close to the river. Andrew and Tatiana made beautiful delicious meals for breakfast and dinner. I took a really fun hike to the hot springs and made friends with the other guests. We all sat down like a family does to eat and come and go freely. It was really chill!!

If you are looking for a one of a kind, genuinely worthwhile and wonderful experience.. You need to stay with Andrew and Tatiana! Staying one night in their guesthouse was one of the highlights of my trip and I wish I could have stayed longer, as I had originally planned. Andrew saved my life by organizing a cab in hidroelectrica at the last minute, and when I couldn't stay like I planned, offered me a free Chocolate roasting experience and cookies to take on my trekk to Machu Picchu :) The food was delicious, the accommodations were very comfortable, the location was wonderfully remote and disconnected from the world.. And the river nearby is truly stunning. I really appreciate Andrew's hospitality and willingness to accommodate me and my late arrival, and I hope someday to return and spend a longer period of time with their awesome British/Peruvian family :) Thank you Andrew, Tatiana and Maya for sharing your beautiful home! All the best, Sarah 3

We are now once again taking bookings. Please note that we need a certain amount of advance notice for bookings as communication is not always instant considering our location and the fact that our family jointly runs everything from Peru, to France and even the UK.

Hi I'm the co-owner of Yellow River. Our family home is open to all visitors, my wife is Peruvian and her family has farmed these valleys for generations. We grow coffee, chocolate and a lot of fruit so the food is amazing and you'll not believe how green everything is. The price of your room here on airbnb includes a delicious home-cooked dinner and an equally delicious breakfast.

We have 3 listings with different bed configurations, all of which share a bathroom. We're not your typical tourist hotel. We are on the way to Machu Picchu and more and more tourists are avoiding the crowds and the trains and doing it themselves. Get there in style, relax, experience the real Peru that the majority of people never get to see. I love this area because the pace of life is slower, the landscape is awe-inspiring and every day brings something new. I had never tried coffee before living in Peru and I ended up growing it!

We had no internet before February 2016 but now have access to a reasonable phone signal and a basic internet connection for responding to guests. We have had an amazing time with our airbnb guests, it seems to be a community of lovely, friendly travellers. The family looks forward to meeting you.

From June 2016 it was my wife's sister Svetlana who received our guests for a while as we returned to the UK with our daughter. Since then, things have changed again and now it is just Olga and Angel, my parents-in-law who meet our guests and who will help you to your room. Emory, Tatiana's sister is also usually on hand to help out. We have always taken a lot of pride in giving time to our guests and talking with them about life in this pretty valley. It was with great sadness that we had to return to the UK. However, guests can still come and stay, experience the magic of this place and take a break from the crowds. Whilst we won't be there to enjoy it with you, our home is yours to enjoy, with Tatiana's parents offering excellent home-cooked meals and you're always welcome to go and see the farm at any time. We've become a more classic airbnb host and less hands-on, but we hope you still check us out and get to see what we have to offer.

Please note, whilst we are near Machu Picchu it is hard to do a day trip from us to the ruins. We recommend people stay with us before or after their visit to Machu Picchu to avoid an unnecessary rush or tiring day of travel and walking. It's best to spend the night in Aguas Calientes before your day at the ruins so you can get up early and be one of the first through the gates. We love airbnb and hope you find the time to visit the family here at Yellow River Quellomayo.
