This has been my first negative experience hosting on Airbnb.
Isabelle was a bit of a problematic guest, having issues about many things which I tried to fix by all my power. We did not get along very well, and so this review is basically a representation of her negative feelings about our communication, and her different 'feeling' about the price that is the normal price as stated on the Airbnb website.
'The appalling smell' as she puts it, coming from the 'siphon' (a thing of which the only functionality is to actually stop any smell from coming up) was a smell actually coming from the shower floor carpet, which was moist for too long. The very next day I hired someone to put in brand new tiles and fix everything in the shower. Furthermore I made my twin brother, who sleeps in the room next to hers, sleep somewhere else, so that Isabelle could have yet another room (free of charge), with more windows, so that she would not smell the 'smell'. A smell which was in fact a very faint moist smell from that shower, which no one before had ever noticed or mentioned until Isabelle (including me). The door to the shower closes very tightly making it very hard for the smell that may have been there to prevent someone from sleep for the night. (in a room that is 60m2). Also, the doors to the room and the large hall can be opened for quite some fresh air in the room.
The church is so big that indeed is a little dusty here and there as 700m2 90-year old building is impossible to keep completely dust free. The sleeping-, bath- and rest rooms are cleaned thoroughly every time.
There is actually a lot of space (6 very large traditional closets) where coats and clothes can be hanged. It appears Isabelle did not check all amenities available or ask me about it. (as I fixed everything that she asked for every time)
The price she complains about is the normal price for a night's sleep here, which I charge on the Airbnb website and can be checked here by visiting the website. So I do not understand where this complaint comes from? (No use to compare this to other hotels as this is the rate that is agreed upon and thus always charged) (still, we offer 700m2! and other hotels charge € 120 to € 200 euros this time of year in this area). I also let her use the second room free of charge.
Lastly, Isabelle herself was inconsiderate of the people sleeping in our church. Coming in at 01:30 am at night, she woke up everyone by having very loud conversations everywhere and stamping the high heels while she knew that we sleep right below her. Besides that, Isabelle was away most of the day for work which was fine and in the start she seemed like a nice enough person.
Altogether, after this first negative experience I hope to avoid any confrontations like this in the future by selecting the guests more carefully. You have to understand that staying in our church is like an adventure, not a spa.
There is nothing more I could have done to please this guest
Greets and better luck on your next airbnb trip Isabelle.
