Le logement

My listing is a beautiful house by the beach in a great area, where guests can experience both privacy and a friendly and welcoming relationship with their onsite landlord.

Guests will have access to and exclusive use of the lower portion of the house comprising living room, bedroom, bathroom and full kitchen, as well as the small enclosed backyard, which is perfect for sitting out in the sunshine.

I will be present at the house during the guest's stay, as I live upstairs. However, I interact with guests minimally, and they can have complete privacy in their area.

Le quartier

I love my neighborhood on a quiet residential street about a mile from the beach. We are walking distance to the beach, and also to all amenities such as shops and nightlife, however it is very quiet, safe and pleasant on my street.

Transports

There are buses and also a metro station a couple of miles away. Bicycling is also possible locally. As in most of the Los Angeles area, a rental car is your best option for getting around. I have convenient offstreet parking for one vehicle.

booked online ahead of time for business long term rental. I was surprised when i first arrived and was told a male was living upstairs (listing specified only one female). The living space is separated by a door that locks only one way. The owner came in three times to drop packages i ordered. No toilet paper when i arrived.  Kitchen was not clean upon inspection - cups, plates and silverware needed washing.  Cabinet knobs fell off when opening.  Fridge shelves broke. Microwave poor quality. Broom with no dust pan,  no vacuum.  Shower head piece fell off during first use. Had to buy towels. Bed spring bends almost like a boomerang - slept poorly the whole time. Walls very thin in house.  Lots of creaking from movement upstairs.  Can hear people's conversations, snoring. The location is in a mostly quiet neighborhood, but its more than a bit of a walk to the beach.

This is my response to Katie, which I am making public so that people can be aware of issues I felt were inaccurately represented: 1.I always have the place professionally cleaned between tenants. It is not correct to say that dishes were dirty since a professional cleaner spent two hours cleaning the entire unit the day before you moved in. For someone so apparently obsessed with cleanliness I find it surprising how messy the place was while you were living there. You did not leave the unit as clean as you found it, or as clean as previous tenants have left it. 2.Your cat apparently urinated on the carpet in the living room, because I had to spend an extra $100 getting the carpet cleaned twice because of the urine smells and stains. I usually charge an extra pet deposit, which you did not have to pay, and this would have covered my extra costs. 3.You always parked your car too far over in the driveway so that it was virtually impossible for me to get my car in the garage. 4.I came into your space three times in order to deliver packages for you that had been left outside. I always knocked before entering in case you were home. I did this in order to secure your packages and make sure they did not get stolen from the front porch, as I am aware that this has happened to some of my neighbors. Every time I did this you thanked me for being thoughtful and helpful in this way. Other than this, I never entered your premises, except to show the place once you told me you were leaving. 5.It is none of your business who lives upstairs in the house – whether tenants or friends of mine who visit regularly - since you were renting a completely self-contained downstairs unit with its own separate entrance and to my knowledge you never intersected with the upstairs tenant at all. 6.Since I own the house, I need to have access to the downstairs premises in case of emergencies, which is why I have a door from my unit to the downstairs unit. And it only locks on one side, because I do not wish to give the tenant access to my area. I believe that is a completely reasonable expectation. I never enter the tenant’s premises without giving adequate warning beforehand. 7.I gave you plenty of towels when you moved in. If you wanted more you could have asked me for them and I would have been happy to provide them. 8.The mattress and box spring on the bed is almost brand new, I bought it brand new less than a year ago. 9.The two things that were damaged in the kitchen were not damaged before you moved in but were damaged after you moved out (i.e. the cupboard knob and the microwave). I find it interesting how you found a way to blame me for the damage that you caused. 10.If you wanted a dustpan and brush you could have asked me for one and I would gladly have lent you one. Or you could have bought one, it costs about $5. 11.Again, you could have asked to borrow my vacuum and I would have gladly lent it to you. All you had to do was ask. 12.As to noise, it’s an old house and there are maybe some floor creaks from upstairs, but I can honestly say that nobody has ever complained before in the whole 15 years I’ve lived in the house and had downstairs tenants. 13.A few days ago, my security camera at the front door captured some video footage of a woman who looks like you taking my mail out of my mailbox, looking through it and then putting it on the ground – not cool! 14.The house is about a mile from the beach, and it takes me about ten minutes to walk there. I don’t consider this a long walk, but that is a subjective opinion. 15.I know this is your first time using AirBnB. Some people like to give others the benefit of the doubt and to see the best in others, while other people like to complain and make the worst of everything. I’m a nice person and so despite my above problems with you I gave you a reasonable review. You could have addressed your concerns to me directly and I would have been happy to help. But you chose to put a very unfair and unpleasant review on AirBnB in a public forum. It seems to me that you will probably have a hard time finding a place that lives up to your perfect expectations.

Madison was a great host, she was friendly, walked us through everything when we first got there, and was always available if we had any questions about anything. When the sink was draining a little slow, she immediately got someone out there right away to fix it, and now it works great! The kitchen was great, easy to cook in, well stocked with pots/pans. The neighborhood was super nice, safe, and quiet. We had two cars, one parked in the driveway, the other on the street, and it was never a problem.

Madison was a spectacular host. Super patient, kind and welcoming. The listing was for the entire lower floor of her house, but she also let us go up to to the patio on the roof when she wasn't in her unit. The location is fantastic. It's in Redondo Beach officially, but a block or two and you're in Hermosa Beach. It's maybe a 20 minute walk to the beach. You can just feel the ocean air as you're in the neighborhood. The house is an older house, but cozy.
