You can also explore the Retreat’s 90 acres of sustainable environment and experience authentic and traditional Sri Lankan agricultural practices.
With the break of dawn a chorus of bird song will greet you. Your adventure will include encounters with Peacocks, Hornbill sightings and spottings of indigenous birds. A visit between the months of October and April will add further colour with sightings of migratory birds. Designed for comfort with luxury, this spacious accommodation is a two storied fully air conditioned private chalet with two ensuite bedrooms, each with its own satellite-plasma TV with DVD and Ipod connection. The entire chalet offers vistas into the peaceful lake and the lush vegetation of magnificient trees and reeds surrounding it.

Lunch and Dinner
When experiencing traditional Sri Lankan customs and ways of life, the characteristic locally prepared rice and curry is a must on the menu, the rice being harvested from the paddy fields of the Retreat itself along with seasonal vegetables. The freshly picked produce are directed straight into the kitchens, giving you an opportunity to experience typically Sri Lankan cuisine during your stay, carefully prepared by the expertise of a local lady from the village.
Bookings do not include lunch and dinner, which need to be ordered separately.
Activities & Attractions
Work in solitude or spend time in quiet contemplation or have cosy togetherness in the secluded spots reserved for you in strategic locations.
Catch the wandering Peacocks in your photographic lens or the Malabar Pied Hornbills, our own residents at the Retreat, or await the swoop of the Brahminy Kites, the Purple Coot lurking in the lotus ponds or the Storks, the Egrets, the Cormorants, the Lapwings and the myriads of other birds, and from October to March, other feathered winter guests. An idyllic spot for the bird lover!
An equal abundance awaits the Butterfly lover and look out for that red Dragonfly among the reeds!
Or, for that incurable romantic, watch the changing aspects of the spectacular mountain, of the features and expressions of the human like face in the dying glow of an evening sun.
Walking, cycling, fishing in the lakes with your own fishing rod or boating will be an added past time.
400 varieties of medicinal plants will be of special interest to an herbalist or to the laymen who could be instructed on its special properties by our expert on site. He could also assist in the walk through the Orchard which has an interesting variety and range of fruit trees.
One could study the activities of the colonies of Bees in the installed hives scattered around the herbarium.
Enjoy a bath village style, splashing oneself with the cool clear water collected in a bucket at Byron’s pool.
Or, a 10 minute walk will bring you to an unusual natural eternal spring for a relaxing time with a dip in the crystal clear water. It is only one of the two such unique springs in Dambulla.
The breadth taking views from the Observation Deck, of the paddy fields spreading into the mountains in all directions and around you and with the rising and setting sun on clear days, is a sight for the brave hearted - to be taken at your own risk.
Mountain hiking trips and guided sightseeing walks at the nearby villages where you can learn of local lifestyle.
Visit World Heritage Sites of Dambulla Cave Temple and Sigiriya Rock Fortress located close by. Also visit World Heritage Sites of Pollonnaruwa and Kandy as well as the Minneriya and Kaudulla National Parks, all of which are a few hours away.
