Leyside is a beautiful, cosy and very comfortable, semi-detached cottage that overlooks the beautiful Slapton Ley in South Devon, a freshwater inland lake that is separated from the sea by a three mile long shingle ridge. Set in the middle of the thriving village of Torcross, there is no need to get in the car as the beach is on the doorstep, an excellent pub/restaurant and tea rooms are a few yards walk away and a good farm shop with garden centre and gift and craft shops as well as a brewery.

Le logement
It was love at first sight for us and we hope you feel the same!

On top of being an extremely picturesque and popular beach, Slapton Sands plays an important part in the survival of some of the UK’s rarest flora and fauna. So if you’re looking for a cracking beach holiday with the opportunity to do a little bit of exploring on the side, Slapton Sands should be on your list of ‘must visit’ destinations.

Great walks and if you like your scenery to have a bit of history then Slapton Sands has a very moving story attached to it. In 1943, the beach was taken over by the allied forces to use as a rehearsal area for the D-Day Landings. Unfortunately, a combination of live ammunition and poor visibility resulted in the deaths of 749 American servicemen. You can visit a stone monument which was set in place on Slapton Sands to commemorate the ill-fated ‘Operation Tiger’, along with a Sherman Tank at Torcross.

The seafront, a stone's throw from Leyside and visible from bedroom window, offers an array of quaint quality eateries and shops. Dogs are allowed on the beach all year around and there is a good offering of water sports.

Accès des voyageurs
Main access is recommended via the back door off the shared courtyard as the front door opens up onto the road. The courtyard is fully enclosed. The bench to the rear of Leyside by the back door is for our guests’ use.

Autres remarques
***PARKING***

We are delighted to advise that we have invested in a parking permit for guests to use during their stay at Leyside.
The permit must be displayed in the windscreen of your car and can also be used in several car parks in the South Hams. More information can be found on the South Hams Council website but the list of car parks (Kingsbridge, Dartmouth, Salcombe, Totnes, Slapton, Torcross, Modbury, Bigbury-on-Sea, Ivybridge) includes:
North Street Car Park, Old Market Car Park, Heath Way Car Park, Steamer Quay Car Park, Longmarsh Car Park, Nursery Car Park, Pavilions Car Park, Quay Car Park, Duncombe Park Car Park, Cattlemarket Car Park, Lower Union Road Car Park, Shadycombe (October-March) Car Park, Creek Car Park, North Sands Car Park, Mayors Avenue Car Park, Park & Ride, Torcross Tank Car Park, Slapton Memorial Car Park, Strete Gate Car Park, Leonards Road Car Park, Poundwell Meadow Car Park, Bigbury On Sea Car Park , Torcross Layby

The permit is valid for permanent parking in the short term lay by car park immediately opposite Leyside. Please note that this is not reflected on the council website but is confirmed on the sign and ticket machine.

You will find the permit in the leaflet and information basket in the living room on a blue clipboard.

***Please ensure that the permit is returned to Leyside before checking out as there is a hefty fine for replacement permits, the cost of which we would unfortunately need to pass on.***

Please remember to check you have received the key code for the key safe on your day of arrival. This is sent by Airbnb message and email.
