The maid's wing of our brick Dutch colonial home is situated on a ten acre estate. There is a secluded and private apartment entrance off a mountain road. The private Base Camp of Dry Kill Estate is your escape from the routine for a pleasant getaway. There is a new queen platform bed with a Serta pillow top mattress. Fluffy bedding and air conditioning. For cooler nights there is a wood stove with the fire laid for you and ready to go. Netflix and Amazon flat screen tv with more channels and WiFi.

There are magnificent views from the estate and from atop Mount Beacon, of our Hudson Valley and the Schwangunk Ridge.

The apartment has a kitchenette with toaster oven, coffee machine, refrigerator and sink). The downstairs is quite comfy with a full sofa and a wood burning stove. A bank of book shelves offers many great reads for those who like to kick back and immerse themselves in a good book. For guests we have a flat screen TV included. We have added a new, and large comfortable sofa which can be used as a bed for those who do not want to share the queen bed. Comfy bedding is available for the sofa with extra blankets for cool nights

The apartment is not for anyone disabled or with balance problems (steep stair, see living room photo). Queen-sized platform bed with a new Serta pillow-top mattress, which is very comfortable and comfy bedding with fluffy pillows and extra blankets. The bathroom (fully tiled bath), upstairs. Ample closet space in the bedroom as well as two dressers.

Coffee maker and toaster and small refrigerator are available. Light breakfast with coffee and tea provided.

Beacon, NY has many great places to dine as well as live entertainment. Metro North Railroad runs every day with a stop at Beacon, from Grand Central Station in Manhattan, (total time approximately one hour, forty minutes). Base Camp is just a five minute drive from the Beacon Rail Stop. There is taxi service. For those who wish to rent a car, Enterprise Rental Car has an office in town.

Access to mountain road for hiking, High definition TV, small kitchen. Light continental breakfast with assorted muffins, bagels, etc. coffee, tea and fixings. Refrigerator for cold drinks, etc.

We afford our guests total privacy and have someone available for your assistance.

Mountain Lane is sparsely populated with large mountain lots and views of the Hudson Valley.

Walking distance to downtown Beacon, taxi service, car rental available through Enterprise. There is a problem getting cabs in a timely manner and I am offering guests pickup service for a $20 per trip charge. There is a plan for zip cars but that is in the future. We will need a 24 hour notice to arrange car service for our guests.

This is a private estate and this apartment is part of a residence. We offer you all of the comforts of home and the splendid seclusion of the mountains.

Very helpful hosts that went out of their way for us. The space was comfortable and we felt at home in no time. Their home is also located directly next to the trail head leading up to lambs hill and mount beacon, which was a huge bonus for us. Would definitely return

Base Camp is a great place to stay in Beacon - which is a hard place to find anywhere to stay. It's a cozy, two floor carriage house that feels like home. Tea and biscuits by the wood burning fire in the evening; coffee, bagels and banana bread for breakfast. Close to town but you probably will want to drive.

Penelope's guest house was absolutely adorable. It was very spacious and my only regret is that we didn't get to spend more time in it. Penelope was also a wonderful host - left us food for breakfast and some snacks which was very sweet. I also got a chance to hike up the trail behind the house (which Penelope's son gave me some tips on) and it was a great hike. The bed was also very comfortable. Would highly recommend to anyone.

The space was very cozy with a wood burning fireplace stocked with wood, jazz music playing on the stereo and a large oversized couch for curling up with one of the many books on the bookshelf. The coffee, tea, bagels, butter and toaster were a nice touch and much appreciated during our relaxing morning. The location was very pretty-- a beautiful property and very quiet, and just a mile from Main St. The pillows on the bed weren't great, but everything else was perfect.

Penelope was a wonderful hostess. she gave us excellent dinner recommendations. the accommodation was perfect if you can handle steep stairs to the loft. The house was cozy and inviting, very romantic. Probably want to rent a car and not rely on Taxi service in Beacon, but we were able to walk into town.

The Hudson Valley, popularized by the stories of Washington Irving (The Legend of Sleepy Hollow) the region gained a reputation as a somewhat gothic region inhabited by the remnants of the early days of the Dutch colonization of New York. The area has always been associated with the artistic movements from the Hudson River School (American Romantic painters) to Pete Seeger involved in the environmental organization Hudson River Sloop Clearwater, which he co-founded to highlight pollution in the Hudson River and worked to clean it.
