Shyre Cottage is a 16th century cottage (2200 sq ft) in a prime location on the picturesque and unique Ickwell Green. A perfect getaway from lifes' pressures and stress, yet only 27 minutes by fast train to London. Biggleswade and Sandy are 10 minutes away, Bedford 20 minutes, Cambridge 35 minutes, 40 minutes from Bletchley Park, 45 minutes from Luton Airport, 60 minutes from Stanstead and 5 minutes from the A1. So whilst peace and solitude are the watchwords, 'accessibility' is their bedmate!
Autumn is now with us and the Shyre Cottage magic changes. No more Cricket - the Ickwell Football Club has taken over the Green! Now the trees are showing all their coloured glory as the cooler days and nights begin to arrive.
Soon - maybe too soon(!!) - we will be celebrating Christmas, and Shyre Cottage is a wonderful house in which to either charge your batteries for the 'challenges' ahead, or to recuperate from all your preparations!!
There are some great walks near to the house, short for relaxation or longer for those wanting some real exercise!
There are still events taking place at the world-famous Shuttleworth Collection - 20 minutes walk and worth a visit - although the flying displays are now finished until next year. In Shuttleworth Park, you will also find the very beautiful Swiss Garden (URL HIDDEN)
We enthusiastically recommend a few days at Shyre Cottage, relaxing in front of a log fire, in preparation of the festivities ahead! You might even decide to have a glass of 'fizz' as well - something we always leave for our guests.
Accès des voyageurs
The whole house is available, plus the garden and patio. Four double bedrooms (one ensuite), family bathroom plus shower room. Possibility to sleep two additional people on a comfortable sofa-bed. Plentiful on-site parking.

We are totally accessible to help and assist with any requirement, either with the house itself (and any additional requirements), with information about where to visit and how to get there, assistance with providing transport, and we can even provide personal guided tours (the latter two facilities at additional cost).
The letting is on a self-catering basis, and there is a well-equipped kitchen. Our visitors can also avail themselves of our superb local hostelry - The Crown at Northill (URL HIDDEN). Run by our good friends Adrian and Victoria Doughty, The Crown is a traditional English pub serving a wide range of drinks and fine English beers. Whether you want a 'traditional ploughmans' for lunch or a fine dining evening meal, you will find that this is the place for you.
Should you wish to be catered for at the house, for perhaps a special celebration, we will be very happy to discuss this with you and provide an appropriate evening.
PLEASE NOTE! The house was built in 1580 and therefore, way before wheelchair access was a consideration for anyone living in the house. Whilst we have shower and toilet facilities downstairs, there are a number of sets of small steps to negotiate on the ground floor which together with narrow doorways, make wheelchair access impossible.
ALL BEDS ARE DOUBLE BEDS.
We have great neighbours with whom we live harmoniously. To respect their friendship we ask that our guests, if using the patio area, move into "quiet mode" from 11.30pm.
I am first and foremost a 'People Person' both in my professional and personal lives. My wife and family are the most important part of my life and always will be. We have always loved to entertain and to share our home with old friends and new, so Air B&b is a great way for folk from the UK and overseas to share our good fortune of where we live.
I love music, books, rugby and Polo.
