À propos de ce logement

Sleep-provoking queen-sized bed, looking out onto lovely gardens, plus private sitting room. Furniture previously belonged to current owner's gr-grandfather. Bathroom overlooks gardens. (SPECIAL OFFER: can reserve as bedroom w/ bath for $115/nt).

Le logement

The Eastlake Suite, w/its lovely sitting room which overlooks Westford Common, exudes the atmosphere of another age. The unique tiles in the headboard of the wonderfully comfortable queen-sized bed are in themselves a conversation starter - or stopper - as guests peer more closely at the tiles, trying to identify the story being depicted. Both the Eastlake Bedroom and its Sitting Room invite cozy conversation, reading and journal writing along with drinking of coffee, tea or wine - plus the best of HD TV, Blu-Ray, Bose speakers, etc. The original fireplaces in both rooms add to the ambiance. Bathrobes for guests' use are provided. (Special Offer: you can message the host if you're interested in reserving the Eastlake as a bedroom w/private bath, for $100, rather than as a Suite).

Accès des voyageurs

Guests have access to a Sitting Room with makings for tea and coffee. Fresh fruit and delicious 'nibbles' are available. The HD TV, Blu-Ray, Bose speakers plus wi fi, games and some books add to the number of choices of things for guests to do. The hosts maintain privacy for the parts of the Tavern that they live in. However, the Dining Room with its lovely bay window, antique furniture and very happy array of plants is open to guests for their delicious Full English Breakfast.

Échanges avec les voyageurs

The host greets guests on their arrival, offering tea or coffee in welcoming them to Fletcher Tavern. The host is also involved with guests during breakfasts each day.

Autres remarques

The Eastlake bedroom can simply be a bedroom with a private bath ($100 per night) or it can be a suite, with a connecting sitting room plus private bath ($150 per night).

Fletcher Tavern is a smoke-less and shoe-less home. You are invited to bring cozy slippers and/or socks to wear whilst in the Tavern.

Different B&Bs will have different guidelines. Following is the information contained in the revised Guidelines (for currently being a guest in) Fletcher Tavern B&B:

A B&B is a special place, a 'home away from home,' offering warmth, friendliness and genuine hospitality! Lively conversation can ensue, undoubtedly much along the lines of what must have been exchanged between men in the Tavern in the 1700s (smoking their pipes in front of the fire, deep in thought....).

Because some people have little experience re staying in a B&B, we offer the following:

ARRIVAL (from 3 p.m. onward) - please let your host know at least several hours ahead of time your approximate time of arrival. If this changes, please call her and let her know?

COMMUNICATING WITH YOUR HOST : Please also be aware that there is not steady 24 hr coverage of phone and/or emails. Thank you for being patient! When staying at the Tavern, if you want to say something to the owner, you can leave a note for her on the pad of paper next to the kitchen sink (by the Entry Room door).

Depending on circumstances (i.e., time of arrival, etc.), guests may be offered tea or coffee and a homemade cookie, etc., served on the Patio or in the Patio Room.

COMPUTER: Info re the WiFi will be shared on your arrival

LIGHTS: Kindly turn off all lights when you leave a room.

AIR CONDITIONERS / FANS : Kindly use these only if the temperature outside is warmer than the warm temperature in your room! Please turn them OFF when you leave the room for breakfast and/or for the activities you have planned for the day! Please follow these guidelines for the 2nd floor Sitting Room as well as for your bedroom....

Except in Winter, windows are usually opened in the evening - then closed first thing in the morning. It's lovely during the summer to have windows open at night so cool air can flow into the bedrooms. It's wonderful for sleeping to have that cool air coming in! Please know that even when an air conditioner is NOT turned on, outside air will flow through it as there is no provision for totally closing off the air intake.

LUGGAGE : There are luggage racks in some of the rooms in the Tavern. Please help yourself!

BREAKFAST : Please let your host know what your food allergies are (if any) and what your 'usual' breakfast is in your country of origin if that is what you would like to be served. French guests, for example, have requested pancakes with fruit on top, with a different fruit used on different days.

Please let your host know what time you would like to have breakfast (from 8 to 9 a.m.) - and please, please be seated within five minutes or so of the time you have given! If there is a significant delay, then your host will go ahead and serve your breakfast which you can then eat at your leisure.

If you would like your breakfast before 8:00 a.m., a cold breakfast (including fresh fruit and hard boiled eggs) will be set out on the dining room table for you. Kindly let your host know your request for an early breakfast early (i.e., the preceding day !!) so she can be prepared.

VISITORS : Please let your host know if you are expecting any visitors - and at what time. Since you are staying in her home, she will undoubtedly want to meet and greet your guests. Please know that your host is not open to visitors going up the stairs and touring the Tavern. You are most welcome to use the Patio Room or the gardens for meeting with any visitors.

Your bedroom and your bathroom,
The dining room,
The Sitting Room, the Patio Room and the gardens.
Please be aware: the regulations for B&Bs in Westford do not permit guests to use the (Tavern) kitchen.

KEY FOR TAVERN : A key to the Tavern (w/red ribbon) for you will be on the kitchen counter by the kitchen sink. Kindly return it to the same place before you leave to return to your own home? Thank you!

CHECKING OUT : Kindly have all of your personal items out of your bedroom (and out of the Sitting Room) by 11:00 a.m. at the very latest.

It's genuinely a delight to have you here as a guest in this historic Tavern! Thank you for being a guest - and we hope to see you again in the Future!

We stayed in mid May. The Tavern experience was exactly as described in the posting by Elizabeth Fletcher. Everything was steeped in charm, with antiques, carpets, flowers in the garden and New England ambience. The location is excellent for excursions into the surrounding countryside and adjacent states. Ms. Fletcher went out of her way to accommodate our needs, including getting up early to prepare a continental breakfast one day so that we could attend our son's early morning college graduation without missing a meal. Highly recommend the establishment and the opportunity to meet and converse with other guests. You won't be disappointed.

I appreciate your being so observant, Patrick, and taking on board the 'bits' that contribute to Fletcher Tavern being the special place that it is! I hope you'll return in the future....and, in the meantime, I wish you well!

An absolutely charming 19th-Century buildings with a stunning garden. All of the charm of yesterday, with a well-organized host who provides clear guidance for guests about the use of the facilities. Just be aware that staying here requires considerable care when leaving the parking lot. The bushes and small trees flanking the driveway obscure sight lines to oncoming traffic from the left. It's not really possible to see the the high-speed traffic coming around the corner from your left through the dense vegetation at the edge of the road. And especially in the morning, those commuters are going *fast*. Guests with slower reflexes, or those who prefer to pull out into traffic more slowly would do well to have a different person driving when leaving the parking lot.

Thank you, Lew, for your feedback. It looks like it's time to get the police involved. There IS a speed limit AND a year ago I had a sign put by the street to alert drivers to 'hidden driveway'. People are in their own world as they drive by.... If need be, I'll be glad to come out to the street as guests leave and flag cars to help drivers wake up and slow down.... Just let me know when you're leaving, Lew, and I can lend a hand.

We felt at home from the moment we entered the driveway of the Fletcher Tavern. Elizabeth was in the vegetable garden, and immediately took us on a brief tour and made sure we were settled in our suite of rooms. The Eastlake Suite includes a private bath, a sitting room (complete with goodies to eat/drink), and a lovely bedroom. We had a very comfortable night, and our visit was capped by a delicious breakfast in the flower garden. We ate while entertained by hummingbirds, goldfinches, sparrows, and myriad other visitors to the colorful and fragrant garden. Elizabeth (our host) provided delicious food and stayed to chat with us about the tavern's history. Turns out we have a remote connection through our family to this lovely house, in which a Hamlin married a Fletcher many generations ago!

Thank you, Martha, for your lovely description of your experiences whilst being here. It was fun to learn that at least a couple of generations of your Hamlin ancestors also lived here in Fletcher Tavern. The 'comely young widow' of Timothy Fletcher who lived in Fletcher Tavern following Timothy's death, was courted and married by a Hamlin (one of your ancestors!) , following which they continued to live in the Tavern. Wonderful synchronicity! We're related through the marriage of Timothy's widow with the first Hamlin to live in the Tavern!

Elizabeth was an incredible host. The Fletcher Tavern is a great place and I only wish I had more time to see the grounds. But I'm looking forward to it my next stay.

Thank you so much, Kevin, for your positive comments! By all means, do plan to take time to explore the gardens when you're next here! There're several places you can just sit and 'be', or you can use your computer, etc. The gardens are gorgeous from now on, throughout the summer....will be good if you have more time to enjoy them on your next visit!

Elizabeth was an extremely friendly and welcoming host. The bed in the Eastlake room was even more comfortable than it looks. The bathroom is private but is about 20 feet down the hall, no big deal. The water pressure in the shower was phenomenal. The attached sitting room (accessed secretly through a door in the closet) adds a nice touch and Elizabeth provided some snacks and all the accouterments necessary to make a nice cup of tea or coffee. The house itself is great old New England home, a must if you have an interest in history. Breakfast was served in the elegant dinning room with a view of the beautiful garden. In warmer weather it's served outside. Breakfast was delicious both mornings and she happily accommodated our special requests.

How to describe me, your primary host? Enthusiastic and wanting to ' MANY things! Born in Texas, initially I was a classical musician (pianist), then teacher in Special Needs, then Clinical Psychologist, with each step leading in some way to the next. I have long yearned to know more and, looking back, I can easily see how that yearning has taken me into so many not necessarily planned experiences! I recognised some time ago that Carl Jung offered a 'lens' for me to better understand the world we live in. And then I traveled considerably (including living and working in Tuva at the Centre for Traditional Folk Medicine for five months over a winter), plus I lived and worked in the UK and then Ireland for a total of 16 years - with a year's Sabbatical tucked in there, too, giving me opportunity to get to know more of the world. I stayed in many a B&B over the years, including in Patmos (where God dictated Revelations to John), in the Lake District, in Edinburgh... I love cooking so preparing a scrumptious breakfast for guests to start them on their way for the day, is a delight. Gardening is another love of mine - along with classical and also folk music. Actually both first and last (but not least!), I enjoy good conversation! I returned to America on 27th January 2013, starting a new volume in my life that has started with opening Fletcher Tavern (the home of some of my ancestors) as a B&B.
