The apartment is located in two small buildings situated in the zone of the Carrera del Darro and the Paseo de los Tristes, without a doubt the best location in the city to enjoy Granada. The apartments are situated at the foot of the Alhambra, in the historic neighbourhood of the Albaicin which was declared World Heritage by Unescoin 1984. From here you can find away to visit on footevery point of interest in the city.
From the apartment, passing along the riverbank of the Darro, you will find Plaza Nueva, the Real Chancillería (today the Head office of the Superior Court of Justice of Andalusia) and the principal point of entry to visit the Alhambra. From here you can also continue to the rest of the city centre, where you will find the Cathedral and the Capilla Real de los Reyes Católicos and the Madrasa (the first university of Granada and now a center for cultural activities). The city centre is also a fantastic place to have tapas, especially on the streets of Elvira and Navas, with a vibrant atmosphere both day and night. If you prefer relax, the location of the apartment is perfect, both quiet and peaceful.
From the apartment, you can follow the River Darro inthe opposite direction to the Cuesta del Chapiz, a sloping street that opens amultitude of doors to the Arabic neighborhood of the Albaicin, a magical place to get lost in the intricate streets, secret squares and spectacular overlooks. Passing from the Albaicin to the middle of the Cuesta del Chapiz, you will find access to the brilliant gypsy neighborhood of the Sacromonte. The Camino del Sacromonte will allow you to see some of the most typical buildings in Granada, the gypsy caves which have become famous for their flamenco shows. Other highlights include fantastic views of the Alhambra and Generalife palacesand location of the historic Sacromonte Abbey. And if the Albaicin and Sacromente seem nice during the day, imagine at night! They are truly marvelous, especially on weekend.
Returning to the base of the Cuesta del Chapiz, and at the back of Albaicin, you will see a bridge. Across it are two streets, one leading strait and another to the left. The first option leads to the Alhambra. Though the “principal” andeasiest option is from Plaza Nueva Square, this path takes you through a winding route without asphalt that retraces 500 years of history and is highly recommended. If, on the contrary, you take the path to the left you will find a path that leads along the slope of the mountain upon which sits the Alhambra. From here you can enjoy unique views of the Albaicin and Sacromonte, and at the end of the route you will find a fountain where it is possible to relax and refresh.
All of these activities can be comfortably made on foot as the Apartment Albayzin 1 awaits you. If you also have transportation or take a bus, we can recommend other activities between half an hour and an hour distance from Granada:
Skiing and snowboarding can be foundwithin 50-60 minutes by car. The Sierra Nevada is a popular tourist destination, as its high peaks make skiing possible in one of Europe's most southerly ski resorts in an area along the Mediterranean Sea predominantly known for its warm temperatures and abundant sunshine.
Rural tourism, trekking, and other outdoor activities are also only a 60 minutes car ride away. We recommend a singular and special area: Las Alpujarras. The Alpujarra is a natural and historical region in Andalucia, Spain, between the Sierra Nevada and the Mediterranean. It extends over two provinces, Granada and Almería, and is often referred to in the plural as "Las Alpujarras". There are several interpretations of this Arabic name: the most convincing is that it derives from al-bugsharra, meaning something like "sierra of pastures". Although it would take more time you can’t miss out on Capileira or Pampaneira.
If you are more in the mood for the beach than the mountains Salobreña, apicturesque village with network of cobbled narrow streets on the Andalusian coast, is only a 45-60 minute drive depending on traffic. We recommended lunch or dinner overlooking the sea in any of a number of restaurants. If from here you take the coastal road in the direction of Malagayou will find other spectacular villages such as Nerja.
