Possums have been known to nest under the roof eaves and in the roofing void from time to time.

They are a harmless native marsupial mammal and a protected species. It is part of the quintessential Australian experience: fauna, flora and culture.

I am happy to provide brand new high quality silicon earplugs to guests who may need them.

The house has a good price, good location, very close to downtown and the UQ, I enjoyed the time staying here. If you are only yourself and want to save money, it must be considered, I look forward to there next time.

Pros: Probably the cheapest single room in West End, awesome location, the owner is easy going and helpful (especially when I asked to extend my period at last minute). Cons: The lack of a wardrobe, the unstable internet connection, the sinks (challenging to use them). Two possums have nested in a hole on the roof of the room, and make noise (scratching and fighting between them) every now and then, waking me up in the middle of the night more than a few times. Speaking with the owner, he doesn't seem willing to solve the problem by moving the possums and closing the hole. Based on my experience (20 and something days), I wouldn't come back here, although it's indeed really cheap.

My guest Alessandro appeared to be neat, clean tidy, kind and friendly but has not been totally truthful transparent and communicative about the situation. Brush-tailed possums are a native marsupial mammal and part of Australia’s unique fauna. They are a protected species and harmless. It is a time consuming and costly exercise to successfully trap and relocate a species such as this and they frequently return to the same nest anyway. I told Alessandro that to do something about the possums would require an appraisal from a tradesperson and this occurred in a timely manner during his reservation. As I said to Alessandro the work would require numerous hours in the removal of wooden lattice of several square metres and then the screening of the eaves on the outside of the house - there is no “hole on the roof of the room” as he claims. The eaves would then have to be screened late at night when the possums are not nesting as they will otherwise be trapped and die in the roof. It is a time consuming costly job and something that does not occur quickly. Brush-tailed possums are simply another experience of living in Australia so too are swooping magpies, sharks and eight of the 10 most venomous snakes in the world among other things. I would think that a guest would embrace my country’s culture fauna and flora. He even asked for and was given food so as to feed the possum himself. I never received any complaint about the lack of a wardrobe, the bathroom or kitchen sink or the internet. Had Alessandro approached me about this personally, by mobile telephone and/or SMS or the Airbnb message thread I could have at least done something about the wardrobe and internet. The internet issue was anyway addressed and rectified in a timely manner when he brought it to my attention. It simply required the purchase of a data bundle to add to peak usage time so I do not understand his comment. For years I have stayed in hotels and rarely if ever use the wardrobe and do not understand why his suitcase was so unsatisfactory when I make do with the same myself most of the time. . I think that the issue with taps is simply knit picking and from my experience whatever and as little as guests might pay they invariably expect a five-star experience. It’s quite nonsensical. Really. However I do take joint responsibility along with Alessandro in not thinking of earplugs as a simple inexpensive solution which I would have been happy to purchase for him. I should also note that Alessandro still all the same extended his reservation on two separate occasions!
