In Amalfi, the people refer to the villa as the "Palace" , which was purchased in 1943 by the Marquis Francesco Mottola of Amato. Renovated by the heirs which sought to emphasize the architectural beauty of the villa, the airiness of the rooms, and to delight the senses by planning an exquisite garden.
In 2004 the villa was declared a "monument of national interest" by the Ministry of Culture.

It stands on the western side of Amalfi, along the road to Positano, immediately after the luxurious Hotel Santa Caterina. It has a privileged location with a feast of astounding views.
The villa is situated 200 metres from the beautiful beach of Duoglio (Lido degli Artisti), which can be accessed via a spectacular descent of steps or by one of many boats that leave from the harbour (10/15 minutes walk from the Villa).

Amalfi, and its particular coast, is considered perhaps the most beautiful part of Italy. It is a quiet and picturesque seaside resort with a temperate climate and incomparable natural beauties.
Amalfi, originally Roman, was the first Sea Republic of Italy. After the fall of the Roman Empire, it was the first city to re-establish relationship between East and West by transporting and introducing into Italy exotic merchandise such as carpets, coffee and paper. Amalfi had its own coin (The Tarì), was the home of Flavio Gioia, the inventor of the compass and gave the navigators the famous maritime law known as “Tabula de Amalpha”.
In Amalfi you can visit:
• The Duomo, built about the 6th century and dedicated to St.Andrew the Apostle whose remains are kept in the crypt;
• The Cloister of Paradise, set beside the Duomo, that was built the 13th century in Arabian style;
• The Paper Museum, where we can see the tools used over the centuries for making paper by hand;
• The Grotta dello Smeraldo, a fantastic green temple full of figures, caryatids and bas-reliefs formed by dripping water from the vaulted ceiling, over the thousands of years. An interesting feature: the underwater pottery crib.
Amalfi is reached from Salerno or from Sorrento: both routes are among the most picturesque in all over the world for the great variety and beauty of the views they offer. On June the 27th and on November the 30th all the visitors have the opportunity to assist at the celebration of the patron Saint Andrea, protector of the fishermen. Both dates are related to the Saint’s history: on November the celebration concerns the death of the saint happened in the 60 a.C. and on June the 27th the anniversary of the miracle he made in the 1544, when he saved the city of Amalfi from the invasion of pirates, provoking an heavy storm in the port sea. During the procession the saint’s statue is carried through the city-centre by congregations of people that reach the beach where are welcomed by fishermen. To homage the Saint, the fisherman offer fishes and bring his bust until the dome. That’s the crucial point of the manifestation: the coffin is opened and a liquid drains out from the reliquary. At this point the manifestation carries on with shows and colorful fireworks.

Amalfi is located in the center of the Amalfi Coast and all buses leave from here to reach the 13 villages of the Amalfi Coast (Ravello, Scala, Atrani, Minori, Maiori, Cetara, Erchie, Vietri sul Mare, Conca dei Marini, Furore, Praiano and Positano). In addition to the bus you can reach by boat Maiori, Positano, Sorrento, Capri and the city of Salerno.
Being a small village do not have free parking.
The closest garage (Luna Rossa) has a daily cost of € 20,00

The Regatta:
A boat race between galleons, boats with eight oars built to the design of the XII century by Alvio Vaglini and launched on the 9th of June 1956, on the Riva dei Giardini Reali…
The event which is held on the first Sunday in June, takes place in two important and complementary parts, the opening with a majestic Historical Procession, followed by the Regatta of the Galleons….
The four boats are 11 metres long and weigh 760 kg. each, they have eight oarsmen on fixed seats and a Cox who stands in the stern, they are decorated with the flags of the Republics.
The race takes place over a distance of 2000 metres in a straight line, on the sea at Amalfi and Genoa, in the lagoon at Venice, and on the river Arno at Pisa. The race at Amalfi starts in the roads off the beach at S.Croce and then parallel to the coast until the finish line in front of Marina Grande….
The procession is made up of four hundred people who wear precious medieval costumes, faithful reproductions of the antique apparel.
Each of the groups interprets a precise historical episode and recall the main characters in the glorious history of their own city, in a splendid chorography of Standard bearers, trumpets, drums and arms….
