Our house has a large veranda and is surrounded by trees but close by the lively Bohemian area of Lapa with its many varieties of music, bars and restaurants. Nearby are buses to beaches and the metro stations and city centre easy walking distance.
I expect my guests to be considerate and respect my space and that of any other people in the house. I would rather they do their partying outside as we do Polinesian rowing training at 6am three times a week so do not enjoy being kept awake late at night! We do not smoke and though I don't mind anyone having an occasional cigarette on the veranda, I don't like people smoking constantly. Everyone is expected to wash their own dishes and maintain the kitchen space clean.

I am British but have lived in Brazil, Rio de Janeiro since 1975. I am an independent photographer/filmmaker and also work as programmer for Rio de Janeiro International Film Festival and attend other film festivals. I have family in the UK so often travel there. I am a very outdoor person, so where possible I ride a bicycle. I love riding horse but as I'm mostly in cities do not do that often. I also practice yoga and Polinesian canoeing (va'a) - mostly in the sea in Rio but have also travelled to other places for competitions, last year Buenos Aires and Calgary and this year Lima, Peru where I took the opportunity to visit Machu Picchu and climb Huana Picchu, a completely unforgettable experience. I speak fluent French and Portuguese as well as English of course and can understand Spanish if spoken slowly and rudiments of German and Italian. I started traveling alone when I was seventeen and I love getting to know different cultures, especially the places where tourists do not usually go. I like to be open to new experiences, new ideas, sounds, tastes and ways of doing things.
