Hosts Ben & Jeanne invite you to their beautifully designed log cabin in the Smokies. Set on 13 private acres, the cabin offers solitude and an unsurpassed view over Chilhowee Lake (the southern border of the national park), the western peaks of the national park, and the entrance to the #1 bike & sports-car destination in the US - the "Tail of the Dragon."
We have what we believe to be the best hot tub view in the Smokies. Our 7-person spa (holds five comfortably) overlooks the mountains and lake with a 180 degree panoramic view. When you see the pics you'll understand why we chose the beautiful location. The hot tub is NOT at the cabin but is located adjacent to our house. When the cover is raised it offers privacy as the cover blocks our view of the hot tub. We use the hot tub also, but we always defer to guests during your visit. It is open to our guests 24/7.
Need a breather from the hectic pace of life? Spend some down-time out roasting S'Mores under the stars. There's almost no light pollution here. In fact, on a clear night, you can easily see the Milky Way with the naked eye. Or, spend a little time challenging each other to a a card game or an old-fashioned evening of board games. Don't miss the chance to sip hot chocolate or coffee on the deck as you watch the sun slowly rise over the peaks of the Smoky Mountain National Park.
If you want the hustle of Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge or get worried if you're not around the corner from a Walmart, this isn't the place for you. But, if you long for peace, quiet, nature, and the outdoors, you're in the right place!
You will have exclusive use of the entire guest cabin as we only rent to one person/group at a time. The cabin sleeps up to 10 people. The master bedroom sleeps 2 in a queen bed. The loft offers 4 twin beds and an optional twin roll-away cot. A twin size daybed & a double futon with extra-thick mattress in the central room offers sleeping for 3 more. A portable crib is available upon request.
The cabin features 2 full baths, a small but very well furnished kitchen (full size appliances, all cookware, dishes, etc), a vaulted central room that opens to a sleeping loft, and a private queen bedroom in the back. Enjoy the unparalleled view from an 8' x 32' covered deck complete with ceiling fans, a log swing, and several log rockers.
The cabin & home are located 1 mile up a maintained gravel road behind a locked gate so you are assured privacy and security. Any car can drive the road (4WD is NOT needed), but motorcyclists should trailer bikes up the mountain. In the unlikely event of winter weather, we will plow the road with our tractor or pick you up in our AWD vehicle. Snow rarely stays on the road for more than a day.
Yep, we just bought our own snowmaking machine (small version of what the ski areas use) & we've built a tubing/sledding hill right next to the cabin. (That's Ben's crazy idea!) We can only make snow when it's below about 27 degrees because it makes real snow, so we are totally dependent on the weather. Don't know if we'll get to make any more this year, but who knows?

We happily welcome well-behaved pets. A nominal one-time $20 pet fee (not per day, just once for the entire stay) for indoor pets may be paid upon your arrival.
We ask that you include children over age 3 in your reservation guest count as we prepare beds, linens, breakfast foods, Smores, snacks, and allow cleaning time at the end of your stay based upon the total number of guests including children. There is no charge for babies sleeping in a crib. Just let us know so we can put up the portable crib.

Not to worry--we have a cute Retro Glamper listed on Airbnb that's very cozy for 2 or 3 guests. We will also have another Airbnb listing available soon, a vintage 1962 Yellowstone glamper set on a 24' x 32' deck with views overlooking the peaks of the Cherokee National Forest. *Lodging tax of 14.75% is NOT included in our listed rates. It is due on arrival in cash.
*Tax is charged on the lodging & cleaning fees we receive (listed rates less the 3% service fee we pay to Airbnb). We will remind you of the exact tax amount shortly before your stay.
*Some guests are not familiar with paying taxes in cash on Airbnb. This is because in many areas, local governments have mandated that Airbnb collect taxes when the reservation is made. In other areas, Airbnb has allowed hosts to collect tax as a separate line item in their reservation total. Unfortunately, we do not have this feature yet in our area. It's inconvenient to us, and MANY hosts left in this situation have asked Airbnb to remedy this discrepancy, but as of right now, we must collect tax in cash when you arrive. This is in keeping with Airbnb policy which states, "[hosts] may add taxes within a Special Offer or ask guests to pay it in person. It's important that guests are informed of the exact tax amount prior to booking. If the host collects tax outside of the listing's rates, it should be collected only upon arrival." TN state laws do not permit us to collect tax before a guest stays as Airbnb may not refund the complete amount of a Special Offer when there is a last minute cancellation, thus our only legal option is to collect it in cash when you arrive. Thanks for your understanding. We hope this explanation helps clear up any confusion you might have.

Amenities include Direct TV, high-speed wi-fi (just installed new service at the cabin), plenty of parking, linens, 4 kayaks with paddle gear, tubes for tubing down Abrams Creek or the Little River (in Townsend), floats to take out swimming in the lake, a corn-hole game, a frisbee golf goal & discs, hiking nearby, and an outdoor firepit complete with marshmallow roasting sticks and free firewood.
We stock the cabin with many cooking essentials such as seasonings, oil, sugar, coffee, tea, hot chocolate, coffee creamer, condiments such as mayo and ketchup, and a selection of snacks. Enjoy a variety of Jeanne's homemade jellies.
There are no grocery stores or restaurants nearby. Plan to pick up groceries before you arrive or for your convenience we offer an on-site grocery service. We stock a selection of drinks (no alcohol), eggs, milk, several breakfast items, selection of individual snacks (chips, etc), canned vegetables and soups, frozen meals, frozen steamable vegetables, bags of charcoal, meats for grilling, etc.
Grocery stores and restaurants are located in Maryville (35 min, 2 Superwalmarts, huge Kroger Marketplace, numerous other large grocery stores, numerous restaurants), Townsend (35 min, one IGA grocery market, a Dollar General, and 8-10 restaurants in season, 3-4 restaurants in winter), Vonore (20 min, Sloan's grocery market/mini-Bass Pro Shop/hardware/gas station/deli, several other restaurants), and Madisonville (40 min, Superwalmart, few other grocery markets, a number of restaurants).
You are the ONLY guests in the cabin. There are no other cabins or homes nearby except ours which is about 300 feet up the hill from the guest cabin. We also have a glamper and a vintage camper on our property (both listed on Airbnb). Neither are visible from the cabin. We are blessed to have a view of nothing but nature--in every direction :) None of that log-cabin-on-top-of-the-next-cabin like the big rental complexes.

Our home is located just up the mountain from the cabin and we love to host guests and share the many local hidden gems of the Smokies. We always greet our guests personally as soon after arrival as possible and are available for questions or just to sit down for a friendly chat, but we make sure you have privacy. Feel free to walk up the hill to our house or give us a call anytime. Oh, and by the way, our home is an octagonal glass house perched atop the pinnacle of the mountain, so don't miss a visit to take in the view!
Our calendar is always 100% current so you can be assured that if a date is open, it IS available.
We believe in honest pricing so we offer the same reasonable rate year round, even on premium times. To keep our rates low, we do not offer discounts.
If you have a specific date in mind, we encourage you to book as soon as you finalize your plans. It's not uncommon for every day of the month to be reserved (definitely keeps us hopping to get the cabin cleaned for the next guests). We suggest you reserve weekends and holidays well in advance. With the Airbnb reservation system, an "inquiry" does NOT hold the requested dates.
Are we already booked for the days you need? Check out our Retro Glamper listed here on Airbnb. It is open for 1 night stays and is a nice cozy spot for 2 or 3 guests. We also plan to open another Airbnb listing soon, so it may be available. It is a vintage 1962 Yellowstone glamper set on a beautiful 2' x 32' deck overlooking the peaks of the Cherokee National Forests. It will accommodate 3 guests.

(*Occasionally we have a 1-night stay opening between longer reservations and may make these available. Unfortunately, we cannot accommodate large groups for one-night stays due to cleaning time.)

Local taxes are 9.75% sales tax plus 5% lodging tax. When you arrive, please be prepared to pay the 14.75% tax in cash. The Airbnb service fee is not taxed. Thus, if your reservation is $500 and Airbnb charged a $50 booking fee, you would pay $550 when you make the reservation. When you arrive, you will owe tax in cash for 14.75% of $500.
FYI - Guests sometimes ask why taxes are not included in our listed rates. Airbnb does not yet offer us the option to separate taxes from the listed rates so that guests can pay taxes with their reservation. In some areas, local laws require Airbnb to collect and remit taxes directly to local governments but this has not yet occurred in our area. We will be happy to discuss the tax implications of this, but for the time being, we have set our policy that we will follow all legal laws to collect and remit sales taxes as required. The most efficient and cost effective way to do this is to collect the tax in cash when guests arrive. Thanks for not complaining--it's not so much fun for us to file taxes every month & quarter, but we do because it's honest and, of course, required by law.
1. No smoking in the cabin or on the deck.
2. Well-behaved pets are welcome. There is no charge for outside pets (we recommend bringing a pet lead as there is no fence). There is a one-time $20 pet fee. This may be paid in cash upon arrival.
3. For the safety of those with pet allergies, we clean extensively after a guest brings an indoor pet.
4. Campfires are permitted in the fire pit. Firewood is provided free. Local laws prohibit bringing firewood into or out of Blount County, TN.
