Your hosts, Ken and Janaan Miles and their two grown daughters have called the Central Coast home since 1984. They have lived at each end of the county and chose Atascadero for its ideal weather and convenient location. They never grow tired of the local sites and love sharing them with their guests.
Having lived in 13 wonderful places throughout their marriage, it is significant that Ken and Janaan returned to SLO County to put down roots. With their daughters and four grandchildren just 30 minutes away, life is a happy kind of busy.
Ken is the Executive Director of Central Coast Camp Fire, finding the 'spark' in our local kids. Janaan is the Foster Family Development Specialist for a local Child and Family Services agency. She recruits, trains, and supports foster parents. Together they managed a group home licensed for 12 girls, and fostered 32 awesome young ladies ages 4-18 in their 4 year fostering career.
They understand how important it is for kids to experience quality family time. They also realize the need for parents to get away from the hectic demands of the world, and for working adults to maximize their limited vacation time.
Family is everything to Ken and Janaan. They know all the great parks and events for families to have fun together. They go to local wineries to celebrate birthdays. They attend summer music-in-the-park and Farmer's Markets for a place to get together mid week. And after work, Ken and Janaan rendezvous at the coast for a sunset dinner or on the Creek in SLO for a quiet chat and dessert.
Do you have travel tales to tell? Ken and Janaan love to discover new places and share photo books of their favorite trips. They would love to hear about some great Airbnb places to visit. Favorite books and movies fill their shelves for you to enjoy and discuss if you like.
Hiking and bicycle routs throughout the county have been tried and conquered. The Miles' have seen some pretty great places but they believe there's no place like home, and it took them a life time to find their Needle in a Haystack.
