Villa Anjani is a great 5 bedroom villa set on small low-tide beach near Candidasa in East Bali. It has lovely views across the bay to Nusa Penida and a perfectly shaded courtyard pool. There is fantastic snorkeling right in front of the villa and we have 2 kayaks [shared with our neighboring villa]. The beautiful little Mendira beach, and its laid back bars and restaurants, is only a few minutes walk away. An ideal home for families and friends who want to experience a more traditional Bali.
Villa Anjani is a great secluded villa near near the lovely traditional village of Mendira, just a few minutes from Candidasa. Its a super location gives stunning views across the bay to Nusa Penida and Nusa Lembongan. There is great snorkeling on the coral reef right in front of the villa. The villa is set on a small low-tide beach and offers guests a total escape from the stresses of modern life. The beautiful tranquility and easy views across the bay are a real highlight of spending time in this East Bali coastal area.
There is a large garden area which is ideal for kids to run around and there with steps down to the private sandy beach at low-tide. There are also long piers on which to walk when the tide is in and you wish to dive and swim in deeper water.
We access a beautiful white sand beach in Mendira village by a short walk through the quiet lanes; it takes just 5 minutes to make the walk. The beach is quiet and the shallow calm water is ideal for young children.
The plentiful coral-reef is great for those who love marine life and we provide some basic gear and also two kayaks. A secluded courtyard swimming pool makes Villa Anjani an escape-like dream for families, couples and friends.
Villa Anjani has 5 bedrooms, comprising 3 doubles and 2 twins - which can also be made into double rooms. There are four rooms in the pool pavilion; the two rooms on the second floor share a shower & bathroom and so can be most suited to a family group with children, as you access the second bedroom [a master with sea view] from the first [a twin]. The 2 rooms are separated by a short corridor where you will find a full bathroom & shower and also a large walk in wardrobe.
Two double rooms make up the lower floor. Bedroom five is in the garden pavilion to the rear of the villa and is accessed by a steep spiral staircase, and so is not suitable for small children on their own. The courtyard style pool though allows both privacy and a good connection between all the rooms and the focal point of social gathering.

There is however an additional charge to cover the cost of groceries, which is discounted to£3.50/guest or £2.00/child under 10 if you pay prior to arrival at the villa.
The staff are also happy to prepare other meals and serve you drinks throughout the day at a cost that is close to the cost of groceries, plus a 20% villa charge. The villa also has a fully equipped chef's kitchen and an outdoor dining area perfect for entertaining.
Villa Anjani is just a great villa and ideal for one big family; two small families, or a gathering of close friends.
For smaller kids, we offer daycare and evening babysitting if adults wish to have an evening out [a small gratuity for babysitting after 8pm is added to the bill but is an optional payment].
There are oceanfront restaurants which are an easy walk away and provide a nice social atmosphere. There are also many to choose from in Candidasa just a few minutes drive away. Taxis are very cheap and efficient and motorcycle hire is available if you are comfortable riding.
Around the villa there are loads of things to do. For culture buffs the fascinating Bali Aga walled village of Tenganan is just 3km away. Candidasa Temple, and the Goa Lawah bat temple are a short drive away, and the water palaces at Tirta Gangga, the royal palace at Klungkung and the Balinese mother temple Besakih are all an easy drive away. For the kids there is obviously all the temple ceremonies, and farm animals, but other more modern attractions are close by including Bali Safari and Marine Park (30 mins); Submarine Rides (15 mins); Elephant Trekking (40 mins).
PLEASE NOTE * There is an un-fenced drop from the retaining seawall at Villa Anjani into the sea of about 2 meters. We have dozens of families with small children stay at the villa without ever having had an issue, and our staff are always on hand to help watch your kids if you ask them, but if you are concerned at not having physical barriers, then it is best that you look at one of our other villas with pool fences and stair gates included such as Villa Leana, Villa Rene or Villa Wiljoba.

Our names are Rene and Tom, and although originally from Indonesia and the UK respectively we have lived all around the world as far afield as Azerbaijan and Malaysia. In July 2008 Tom gave up the corporate life and we settled in Bali. Unfortunately it was spectacularly bad timing to try and set up a new life as the Financial Crisis hit, and so we went back on the expatriate road again, this time to Bangkok in Thailand.
In 2012 we tried again, and this time we were successful in getting out of the corporate rat race and so we now manage our own 4 villas full time, as well as 3 other great villas of friends - so this is now our life!
Both of us love Bali and have made several trips together here over the years. Tom is a fanatical diver which drew us first to East Bali, where we decided to buy our first villa close to Candidasa and directly on a white sand beach with a great reef directly offshore that was perfect for snorkeling. We named it Villa Talia Vashti after our little daughter (Talia Vashti).
In 2007 we were blessed with a second daughter, who we named Kalisha. We realised we were in trouble now though as she was bound to be jealous that her sister had a villa and she did not. Many years ago we stayed at a villa in Ubud called Villa Uma which we had absolutely loved. Rene had always wanted a place up in the mountains where the temperatures were pleasant and cool all day, but she also wanted to be close enough to Ubud to be able to enjoy the restaurants and attractions of the area. Villa Uma was perfect, so we called up the owner to see if he was willing to sell, and as is the case when you feel fate is on your side he actually had the villa on sale. The villa though was in a bad state of repair, and while the previous owner while had a great feel for aesthetics, he lacked a little something when it came to practicality with the result that the villa had no staff quarters, no storage and the roof and deck were falling apart.
We decided to buy it anyway, and then committed to a major renovation. We replaced all the decking by the pool (which had rotted away) and extended the swimming pool to make it a genuine infinity pool. We took away the old wooden railings and replaced them with safety glass so that you could now lie down anywhere in the villa and still have uninterrupted views of the jungle (and it was also safer for kids). We also built an entirely new staff quarters and storage area to the back of the villa. Having started all this work, we realised that the villa itself looked a little old and tired, so we replaced all the bathrooms, installed a new and properly fitted and functioning guest kitchen, and renovated and repainted the entire villa from top to bottom. This would be a major task for any villa, but for Villa Kalisha every single thing we needed for the renovation had to be carried by hand along the path to the villa, and similarly rubble and waste had to be carried back again.
Finally 6 months later, the villa was finally finished and we renamed it Villa Kalisha to avoid any sibling arguments later in life.
In early 2008 we moved to Bali full time, and bought a great villa in Seminyak that was close to everything - this time to live in ourselves. When we left Bali in late 2009 to go to live in Bangkok, we renamed our home Villa Rene (after my wife) and rented it out with our other villas. We always loved Villa Rene, and it is still my wife's favourite villa, but even we were surprised on how many enquiries we received.
Finally the kids said that Daddy needed to have a villa as well. With the money from the corporate job in Thailand, and with income coming in from the other villas, we were able to another villa. We wanted a villa that was totally different again from our other villas, and so this time we chose a villa at the top of probably the highest hill on the Bukit, close to Jimbaran and with spectacular views out over the cliffs. We named the villa "Villa Leana" which is our daughter Kalisha's 2nd name, although the kids still call it "Daddy's Villa".
We still find it hard to believe that we could end up owning one amazing villa in Bali, let alone four and so we often have to pinch ourselves to believe that these are really our villas when we stay at them with our little daughters, which we try and do whenever we can. In any case we think they are all really special places and we hope that get as much enjoyment from our villas as we do.
