In Danehill, West Sussex, The Barn features B&B accommodation in a renovated barn with high ceilings and exposed wooden beams, away from the listed main building which dates back to 1545. It offers beautiful far-reaching views of the South Downs. We are on the edge of the Ashdown Forest.

Le logement

The Barn stands in our grounds next to the paddock where our hens roam during the day, it is away form the main house where we live providing privacy for guests. There is a small fridge in the Barn filled with bottled water, jams, butter, yoghurts, milk and juice for breakfast. Dorset cereals are supplied and freshly baked croissants or scrambled eggs are offered as well.

A tray holds a variety of teas, coffee and hot chocolate along with biscuits. A bowl of fruit is always full and there are always fresh flowers picked from the garden. Breakfast is included in the price.

Accès des voyageurs

There is parking outside the Barn near the main door, there are also double doors which open from The Barn onto the garden with a bench outside for guests. The part walled kitchen garden is across from the parking area and guests are encouraged to wander round, when fruit is in season it is provided in The Barn.

Échanges avec les voyageurs

There is a fully comprehensive information sheet in The Barn for guests detailing local pubs/restaurants, local villages, shops etc. We provide an ordinance survey map for walking. There are National Trust properties close by, we are only a 5 minute drive away from Sheffield Park Gardens with Standen House & Garden, Wakehurst Place also close by, Borde Hill & Nymans and The Prairie Garden are within easy access too. During the summer months lots of private gardens open under the NGS, notable Town Place and Town House. Glyndebourne is within reach also (25 min drive).

Forest Row, Lindfield and other really interesting English towns/villages are also close by.

Autres remarques

The Barn is on the edge of the village of Danehill in a rural setting, with uninterrupted views of the South Downs. Often guests hear the owls at night and on Wednesday nights the bell ringers practice at our church, 300 metres away.

We had a wonderful stay in Daneshill for my fiancé’s 30th birthday. The accommodation was absolutely perfect - comfortable, well furnished and a great wet room shower!! The views out of the back we’re gorgeous - rolling hills and plenty of sheep! Julia was a fantastic host and offered some great recommendations of things to do nearby. I couldn’t recommend our stay more highly! The scrambled eggs we’re delicious too!

My husband and I stayed for two nights. We received such a warm welcome from Julia who didn't mind us arriving late in the evening and knocking on her door, so friendly and welcoming it was such a lovely start. The barn was beautiful, incredibly well set up and very comfortable with everything we could possibly need there. The absolute beauty of it was waking up in the morning and opening the doors onto a stunning view of the countryside and the chickens. The smell of fresh grass and sunshine came straight into the room it was really dreamy. To top off an already idillic morning Julia bought us scrambled eggs and croissants for breakfast to accompany a delicious selection of museli, fresh fruit, home grown yellow raspberries (sweetest most delicious raspberries I've ever had!) teas coffees and orange juice that was all in the little kitchen area in our room. Overall, absolutely top stay and would recommend highly to anyone wanting to visit beautiful Sussex. It's perfect!

The Barn is glorious! We stayed two nights here. The room is spacious, beautifully decorated, with a comfy bed, and stunning views over the rolling hills of Sussex. And Julia made a delicious breakfast of scrambled eggs. It's one of the loveliest places we've stayed with Air BnB.

The PERFECT little hideaway - a true home from home! From the moment I booked this stunning property, I knew I had made the perfect choice. Julia was so attentive, thoughtful and personal in her introduction (very shortly after I made my booking) and it was clear that she had paid close attention to my profile in order to personalise our experience from the get go. Her genuine, warm and personal approach to the whole stay is what catapults this B&B to something very unique and incredibly special! The property itself is set in the most spectacularly beautiful grounds of Julia's own home. The views from the barn itself are unobstructed and achingly beautiful. From the front door of the barn, you can see Julia's sumptuous vegetable garden and from the side of the barn (and most importantly for those longing for ultimate relaxation) unparalleled views of the British countryside, which I emplore you to explore on foot (if you have time to roam!) or perhaps (for some, more fabulously indulgent in character/ in need of pure rest and relaxation) from the comfort of your bed - feasting on the delicious scrambled eggs and toast, provided by your only neighbours (the lovely little hens and Julia). The property itself is immaculate; so clean and exquisitely presented. The attention to every little detail is again what make this stay so luxurious without it's all too common and unnecessary pretension. Everything from the art (a perfect balance of rustic and modern), to the hand picked furniture, and super-soft enveloping towels and throws, accented by pops of colourful wild flowers, hand picked from the garden to bring the details of the space to life - HEAVEN! This venue was in the perfect location for a wedding I was attending in nearby Lewes and having done a little exploring, would make for the perfect weekend escape for those with a keen interest in history, architecture, agriculture, horticulture and even shopping! With numerous National Trust properties, little villages and towns nearby, the Bluebell railway, Anne of Cleaves home and Juliet's own fruit and vegetable courses available (something I would highly recommend anyone with a little time to participate in - Juliet's raspberries in particular were delicious!!!!) you will never be bored. I will without doubt be visiting again and have actively encouraged anyone I have met since to do the same without hesitation - it really is pure HEAVEN!

What a place! If you want a relaxing, secluded hide away this is the place for you! We loved this place - so quiet and peaceful! Enjoyed having the doors opening in the morning taking in the Sussex downs! Julia and Nick were great hosts and the settings were beautiful, a must is a walk around the gardens! We will most certainly be back!!!

I am a busy mother to 2 teenagers and I am passionate about growing fruit and vegetables so apart from running our B&B business I host garden workshops in our part walled kitchen garden, some of the produce will appear in the Barn. We moved from London 11 years ago and we have not looked back, we keep hens in the paddock, 2 fish and last but not least a very handsome ginger cat who likes to meet our guests too!
