Recommended by Frommer's, the Stone House B&B at the Cornelis Kool House, Hurley NY, is an early 18th century Hudson Valley Dutch estate, with architectural features dating back to the original Dutch settlement of the New Netherland.
This house has a unique spirit, which seems to bring people of all kinds of backgrounds and interests together. The earliest still-existing parts of the house date from around 1710, and we renovated it extensively in 2008-10 for our B&B. In 2012 we were honored to be listed by Frommer's as one of the 9 best B&Bs/inns in New York State. On one side of the house we have been able to leave many original features e.g. the 1750s second summer kitchen with its beehive oven and cauldron that swings out, and there are wide plank floors, exposed beams and lime washed stone walls. Your private room is upstairs, with a large private bathroom just a couple of steps down the hall - bathrobes are provided. It sleeps two comfortably, and has a table and two chairs, an armoire, and two night tables as well as the queen bed.

Guests have access to a large front room with comfortable seating, books and games, as well as a meditation room, porch and gardens, which go down to the creek. These areas are shared with any other guests that might be at our B&B. Coffee and tea, and a fridge for your use, are available whenever you need them, on a table in the entrance hall. There's also lots of tourist information in the front room. You will be asked when you'd like to have breakfast, and this is usually 3 courses including homemade granola, homemade bread, maybe an egg based dish, and usually a fruit based dish. We also cater to individual dietary needs if you tell us beforehand about allergies etc.

We live in our own separate apartment within this house. We love to talk to you if you want to talk, and there's lots to show you about the house and the area if you're interested. It's also easy to just keep to yourselves and have a quiet time. Your key allows you to come and go as you please.
Check-in is usually from 3pm onwards, and check-out is noon.
We don't allow smoking in or near the house, and pets are not allowed in the Mistress and Maid room. We ask you not to gather in the front room after midnight. You are very welcome to arrive or leave at any time.
We're innkeepers who have lived together in this area since 2007, previously we lived in the UK. We've really enjoyed restoring this house and love all that the Hudson Valley has to offer. It's a privilege to be temporary custodians of this place!
