Wandawega Lake Resort/Camp Wandawega is a private friends & family retreat, not a “proper” resort. We are carrying on the proud 90-plus year history of reconnecting people to the simple pleasures of simple times in a no-frills, recreational camp setting. All of our guests are here as part of preplanned recreational friends & family camp programs: sorry, but we do not accept random “walk-ins” or “transients.” But all are welcome to join us on Sunday mornings for Catholic "mass-in-the-grass" service, a 50-plus year old tradition; Sunday's at 10am weather permitting.

To support the ongoing renovation of this historic property and the largely philanthropic camp activities, we are continuing the tradition of making a very limited number of accommodations available for self-guided "friends-and-family" recreational camp programs during the summer months. All proceeds from rentals go into the maintenance, upkeep, and continuing renovation of this historic property. Admittedly, the price is expensive for the primitive nature of the accommodations, so please please please set your expectations accordingly. Remember, you're not just renting primitive cabins, you'll also have access to the grounds, private beach, woods, communal spaces like the treehouse, campfire pits, sports courts, boats, canoes, smokers, grills, etc.

Again, we are not a "proper" resort, so if you require an immediate response, lots of hand-holding and attention to detail, then this just might not be the best fit for you. OK, you've been warned : ) Thanks.

Like all of Camp Wandawega, it’s a 100% back-to-basics, no-frills, primitive experience. Simple rooms, vintage furnishings. Shared “his” and “hers” restrooms and showers. A shared primitive kitchenette. For all intents and purposes, there is no heat or AC: just windows to open, and a lake breeze. Please check the weather before you come, and bring an extra sleeping bag if it’s going to be chilly at night. If you think of it as "camping indoors" and come prepared for the weather, you'll be just fine. Remember, October in WI can bring lows in the 30s!

Please note: The photos are not 100% accurate, as things are always being moved around, redecorated, etc. but they are still indicative of the overall look-and-feel. We strongly suggest you come for a tour before booking if possible, so you can be sure you're into the back-to-basics vibe.

What should I bring you ask? For starters, the camp basics. A few beach towels. Some Deep Woods Off. Sunscreen. And flip flops. If you have a favorite blankie, sleeping bag and pillow, bring them too, as I’m sure they’re more comfy that what we have : ) As for food, we suggest that you shop local. Bring an empty cooler and fill it up at the Elkhorn Piggly Wiggly and Frank’s Liquors. Or Wilson Farm Meats in Elkhorn. Or Rushing Wateries Fisheries in Palmyra. Or The Elegant Farmer. There’s plenty of local produce, meats, cheeses, beer, wine and booze for appetites and budgets of all sizes. Even the nearby Mobil on Cty A has bait, food, wine, ice, booze and beer too. Plus a nice little taqueria within. Most of our friends and family live out of coolers when they’re here, grilling out, and frequenting local restaurants like Holi Canolli, The Chalet, and Sperino’s.

Again, this is not a "proper" resort, it is a private, friends-and-family retreat that is making a few cabins/cottages available on a very limited basis for recreational camp activities. As such, it is very informal and causal, so please be patient with us, as we are not always available to instantly answer questions. Before staying with us, please request a copy of our "Manifesto of Low Expectations.” All guests will be asked to sign a release of liability. Please also know that Camp Wandawega still hosts Sunday morning Catholic "mass in the grass" at 10am, weather permitting, a tradition dating back to the early 1960s when the property was still owned by The Latvian Marian Fathers. Just don't want you to be surprised if you're there on a Sunday morn and awaken to find 100-plus worshipers gathered at the nearby outdoor chapel. Pets may be allowed with special arrangements; additional fees may apply. Maximum number of guests must be agreed upon before booking.

Get "back to basics" at Camp Wandawega. Our guests aren’t renting a couple of random cabins as much as they’re immersing themselves, their friends and family into the whole old-school camp experience featuring a full agenda of recreational camp activities such as canoeing, boating, fishing, hiking, biking, horse shoes, tennis, shuffleboard, archery, campfires & s'mores. The fact that we have no modern conveniences is part of our charm. If you're not sure this is for you we suggest coming up for a visit and a tour before staying with us. If you’d like to see an unedited view of camp, simply search for us on , Instagram, Youtube and Vimeo to see us through the eyes of the many who have visited over the years. Our guests have access to simple, back-to-basics camp showers, like you recall from your childhood summer camp. Outdoor grills and smokers are also available, as are a number of nearby restaurants and bars. If you’re looking for fine lodging, look elsewhere: this is old school cabin-living, like you remember from summer camp.

We are often up at Camp on weekends, so perhaps we'll see you. We'll always have a local property manager on call should you need anything, In general, we leave our guests to their own devices, and are always happy to offer up suggestions of things to do, places to go, etc.

An old school lake community, about 7 miles outside of Elkhorn. About half of the neighborhood homes are year round residents while the others are summer homes.

There is no public transportation available.

Règlement intérieur
L'entrée dans les lieux se fait après 13:00

The overarching rule of thumb is: common sense and respect.
No Smoking indoors. Do not drop butts on the ground outside.
Also, while we have been pet-friendly over the years, unfortunately we have transitioned to a "no pets" policy. Although we are dog lovers, the extra wear and tear has become prohibitive. Even though we charged a $50 pet surcharge, we still couldn't keep up with the extra cleaning and repairs that were required. And now that we are recognized by the National Register of Historic Places, we have to be even more careful about the ongoing preservation and renovation of the property.
Thanks in advance for respecting the historic and natural assets of Camp Wandawega.
