This flat is great fun to live in. There is a lot of space including a private garden at the front and back. The log burner is a total bonus - we use it almost every day of the year. The bathroom is addictive - it's like a spa with a roll top bath and exposed brick walls.

There will be a cleaner coming in every 2 weeks of your stay. She is lovely and will ensure the place is spotless for you. You have access to the communal garden at the back. The small garden at the front is ALL YOURS.

I will check you in and out but will have someone available if you need any help while you're in the city.

The flat is 5-10 minutes walk from Byres Road in the desirable West End of the city. My flat is near the city's best restaurants and bars, and is within walking distance of the city centre and Commonwealth sites.

It's easy to get to and from the city centre and and the Commonwealth Games Venues.
- Hillhead Underground Station (8 min walk)
- Glasgow City Centre Bus Stop (2 min walk)
- Taxi Rank (5 min walk)

*****************Commonwealth Games*******************
I'm offering my place for the Commonwealth Games. Preference will be given to guests wishing to book for the entire period and the price per night shown on the calendar.

Hey! Welcome to Flat 0/2, 65 Fergus Drive!

I hope you guys will use the place as if it were your own. In return, respect everything, as if it were your own. Help yourself to anything that is out and about, cooking items, a scarf, toiletries etc - just replace anything if you use it in excess.

Keys

I have left you with two sets of keys. You will find one set on top of the piano, or somewhere obvious. The other set will come from me, or you’ll have picked it up from a nearby friend/cafe. Once you’re inside the building, our door is the first one on the right, the black door with the horses by the doorbell (0/2).

One of the key sets includes a back door key (the big one). Both sets then have 3 other keys you will use every day: Two Yales and a silver storm door key. There are 3 doors you’ll need to unlock: The main entrance to the building, then two doors to our flat. One Yale is for the main entrance, the other is for our inner red door. When you leave, please double lock the storm door (this key will do a double turn). The inner red door only needs pulled closed when you leave the flat. Don’t try to lock it. From the inside, the black slider pulls horizontally left to open the door. Sounds complicated, but is very straight forward!

Wifi

I have BT wifi here which you can connect to on all your devices. The code is on the router which is located on top of the piano in the hallway. There is a little plastic insert which comes out - This has all your login details on it. Please put this back in the slot! If the wifi cuts out, I normally just switch the power off at the mains and leave it off for a few minutes.

Heating

The boiler is great in this flat, the place heats up very quickly. You can set the boiler to be on a timer or have it on the manual setting and adjust the thermostat as you go. The latter is the easier option - Glasgow’s temperature can be very unpredictable at times! The thermostat will be left on the kitchen counter. You use the up and down arrows to pick a temperature and the boiler will get the flat to this temperature then switch off. You can lower the temp to turn the heat off if it gets too much. Please try to make sure the heating isn’t on too high while you’re out.

Wood burner

You will love this. It takes some practice but if you have the time, do make fires. The stove has two vents which let in air to help you light the fire in the first instance. Ensure the door is closed once you’re burning. To make a fire, burn off some news paper to heat up the flu, then create a bed of news paper followed by lots of kindling and/or firelighters. Light this, open the vents and close the door to get started. The stove will make a loud noise sometimes when it’s heating up - this is good! Once your flames look reliable, chuck on a log or two and close the door. Once its really cranked, close the top vent, then the bottom, **using a glove or the fire utensil**. You can add coal once you’ve gone through a log or two. It’s ok to leave the fire on once you’ve gone to bed or if you’re in another room. Just be sure to close the vents and the door tight. Hoover up the ash after 5 or 6 uses so you have lots of space for air to flow underneath. You will find extra wood out in the front garden in the wood store. The front garden is private to us/you so feel free to use it!

Windows

All the windows open incrementally. There is a small lever hidden in the window frame that says PUSH. You push this in to open the window one notch, and so on. Please make sure all the windows are closed whenever you are not in the flat.

Blinds

The blinds in the living room should never go right up to the top because they don’t come back down again! Just put them up around 2/3rds of the way if you’re using them. It’s a pull and release kind of a thing.

Plants

Please keep an eye on our beloved plants. If any look dry or like they are wilting, just top them up with some water. There is plant food on the kitchen plant stand too if you want to add a little of that to the water.

Towels and sheets

There will be clean towels and sheets ready for you. The washing machine is pretty self explanatory. I wash most things at 40 on a daily wash but go for 60 if you need a real intense clean. I use the pulley in the kitchen recess to dry things, or the line outside in summertime. I also use the radiators to dry things for speed as we have no tumble drier. There is a clothes horse in the hall cupboard too.

Sonos sound system

You can install the Sonos app on your laptop, tablet or phone and then play music through your Spotify/Soundcloud/iTunes account. The speakers are great and you can control them from anywhere in the flat. There is a speaker in the living room and one in the kitchen. You need to be connected to the wifi for this to work. You also need to connect your own Spotify account.

Recycling + bins

Glass recycling is out in the street in the large green bins at two points a few minutes walk up or down Fergus Drive. You can collect glass in the brown bag which lives to the left of the dish washer. Underneath this is a plastic bucket which is the general recycling. Put plastic, paper, cardboard and tin in here after washing, then dump in the BLUE bins out the back. This stuff is collected weekly (on Thursdays). Regular rubbish has to go in BLACK bin bags then out to our dustbin in the back garden. You’ll see which one is ours on the sign on the door down there. This is collected Thursday/Fridays.

Coffee + pubs

Coffee:
Smile Cafe on Queen Margaret Drive. Rocco and Santino who run the place are lovely. One of their coffees is enough - they are VERY STRONG!

William is a great little place also on QMD. Sandy is very sweet. Their eggs are GOOD.
Pubs:
Stravaigin on Gibson Street. Great for beers, cocktails, wine, dinner, just everything really.
The Ubiquitous Chip on Ashton Lane. Secret rooftop open till 1am!
