We usually keep to ourselves and respect your privacy, unless you would like us to assist you with any questions about the room or the island. We can also recommend the best tours, activities and local beaches on Maui to visit! Please be prepared to be reasonably self-sufficient.

Kihei is one of Maui's most popular areas because of the sunshine and beaches. Kihei has a dry hot climate, and usually has a strong afternoon breeze. Kihei can at times be a little dusty and many people will prefer to keep their doors closed and the AC on at night.
Cleaning: Guests are asked to do a complete room clean (bedroom/bathroom/kitchen) when they check out.
Deposit: There is a deposit for damage, missing items, or cleaning.
Sugar cane farming: Maui has large areas of sugar cane, especially in the middle of the island, cane burning and harvesting causes smoke and dust downwind. It is best to keep windows and doors shut at these times. Some people with respiratory difficulties may be adversely affected by this (Note: Cane Burning Permanently Ends Jan 1st 2017).
Volcanic Fog: Maui does not have any active volcanoes. But when the trade-winds stop for a few days, we can get a volcanic fog coming over from the big Island, called "VOG" here in the islands. This makes for dramatic sunsets, but not so great for the air quality. Most people are unaffected by Vog but some sensitive folk will be better off to stay indoors with the air conditioner on.
Exploring Maui: Maui is still a very wild place, with many inaccessible and remote areas. Always stick to well known places and marked trails. People can get themselves into trouble when going off the known trails or visiting remote and isolated places by themselves. Check out the recommended highlights and attractions or have a local guide or hiking company show you around, and you will be much happier and safer.
Beaches: any beach can be dangerous depending on weather and ocean conditions, Swim at lifeguard beaches, every beach is different, "if in doubt don't go out"..
Nature: On Maui you may get a gecko in your room, these are not harmful they eat bugs, chirp musically, and are considered good luck. You might also get the occasional insect, centipede, cockroach, ants, rolly-polly, small spiders, flies and mosquito. So it is best keep your screen doors closed at all times to minimize this.
In the garden: You may see a cane toad at night, the occasional mouse, a mongoose, neighborhood cats, wild chickens and all kinds of birds.
Driving around you might see: peacocks, geese, wild goats, wild boars, axis deer, cats, chickens and ducks.
At the beach you may see: turtles, whales, seals and many other creatures.

We are right near a bus stop, there are airport shuttles and UBER available, our home is walking distance to shops, restaurants, and beaches. We recommend getting a rental car to get around the island. There are also scooter and bicycle rentals nearby. We do not recommend hitchhiking on Maui.

Sugar cane farming: Maui has large areas of sugar cane, especially in the middle of the island, after selected areas are harvested it can be dusty with Maui's famous red dust in areas directly downwind. It is best to keep windows and doors shut at these times. Before harvesting selected areas are burned (usually at night) and some cane smoke can get blown downwind to Kihei and Wailea. Some people with respiratory difficulties may be adversely affected by this. cane burning is done at selected times with the most favorable breezes to clear the smoke away quickly.
