I'm sorry everything wasn't to your satisfaction. I checked the ceiling fans in both bedrooms and they are working fine. You have to move the lever on the light switch to turn them on. I haven't had any other guests complain about the fans not working, but will make sure, in the future, that they know how to operate them. Also, with the air conditioning, it is generally quite comfortable and cool without them.
I'm not sure what you meant by the living area being shared with other furniture and storage other than in one area we have a ping-pong table, treadmill, and air hockey table for guests to use. Yes, the furniture has seen better days, but I'm just starting out (plan to make continual improvements) and for the rate I am charging, I and my other guests that have stayed feel it's comfortable and adequate. The beds are not old and are comfortable and in new condition and have always had mattress protectors on them. The 2nd bedroom is a bonus that most places won't provide for my price.
Yes, the basement stairs to the upstairs is an open one (our house was built with our family in mind and not as an Airbnb initially) . We have been trying to figure out how to put a door on it when it's not built for a door and would be very expensive to change. Other guests haven't found it to be a problem that we are aware of.
I'm doing my best and will continue to, to make it a comfortable place to stay.
