In the heart of the Driftless Area, a big swath of Wisconsin, Minnesota and Iowa that was not glaciated during the last ice age, lies the drainage of the Upper Iowa River, one of the wildest and most scenic streams in the Midwest. Defined variously by towering bluffs, white cliffs, deep woods and pastoral banks, the Upper Iowa is a treasured destination for canoeists, offering a paddling experience unlike most other options in the vicinity. Named one of America's 100 Greatest Adventures by National Geographic magazine, the Upper Iowa River is the perfect destination for anyone looking for an enjoyable and relaxing day. Canoe, kayak, tube, or fish the waters and enjoy the scenic limestone bluffs rising as high as 280 feet above you.

We recommend contacting rentals in advance of your visit to Decorah to insure that there will be boats or tubes available for you, and transport if you need it.

Acorn Cabin is one of the last farms on the edge of the south side of town. The setting is peaceful and gorgeous, with lovely out buildings, a stately farmhouse, and beautiful oak trees. You can expect privacy and quiet at Acorn Cabin, with only the workings of the farm and the sheep to keep you company.

We live in the restored farmhouse, and after raising our three children here now enjoy the peacefulness of the farm. We are just a short walk away - far enough to give you plenty of privacy, but close enough for easy conversation and assistance with anything you might need.
