This 6-BR house, only 2 hrs from NYC, has the feel of a bygone era and all the comforts of modern living. 70 acres, surrounded by fields, orchards and foothills of the Berkshires. It is perfectly located for a fun and relaxing summer. SUMMER RENTAL
(This listing is for a monthly summer rental only. There are no daily or weekly rates.)
The house is on a beautiful scenic road, 5 minutes from Lake Waramaug State Park with it's lovely beach, canoe & kayak rentals and a boat launch.
The house has its original central hearth and wideplank floors, is simply decorated and very comfortable. There is a large dining room and a sunny eat-in kitchen, but in the summer the screened-in porch with its view of the hayfields is the place to be. The owner lives at the far end of the driveway in a converted tobacco barn. The houses are separated by a wide lawn, perfect for barbecues, badminton, picnics, croquet or just rolling around.
Accès des voyageurs
Guests are free to enjoy the restored English perennial garden, catch frogs in the pond, wander along the brook in the back woods or pick berries at the pick-your-own organic blueberry operation that is up and running on the back acres July-Sept.
Guests are also welcome to use a portion of the vegetable garden for their own planting.

I am usually around all summer and can answer any questions and offer suggestions. But it is a big property and you can have as much privacy as you want.
One more authentic feature of the house: steep staircases. Charming -- but not for the weak-kneed.
The house was rented last summer to two families. We were all new to Airbnb and so didn't realize that we had to write reviews within two weeks. These reference can be provided on request.
Sorry, there is no smoking anywhere on the property. Pets considered.
This property has been in our family for four generations. In the 1980s, after retiring as a women's career counselor at Columbia University, I moved here permanently and began an organic fruit farm. I am a lifelong gardener and work closely with local organizations to preserve land and protect the environment. I have traveled through SE Asia and much of Europe and lived for a time in various African countries. But there is truly something special about this place -- the road, the fields, the surrounding hills, the night sky, even the gnats! This is still the place I've always wanted to be -- especially in the summer.
