We are offering this house for rent during times, in which we don't live there by ourselves as we divide our time between Berlin, Jakarta and Yogyakarta. This means, we will not be present during your stay.
But there will be a friend of us on check in, who speaks fluent English and who you can contact anytime if you have questions.
In the process of building the house, our visions was to find a balance between privacy and connectedness to our surroundings.
We decided to keep the living area open without walls towards the garden and rice fields. The big trees, aligned along the house, offer a nice protection from wind and direct views into the house, while you can still witness the activities of the farmers around you.
Next to the house is another, small guesthouse (Rumah Gladak), which we offer for rent as well. It can be also rented together with Joglo Gumuk, if you want to come with a group or a bigger family.
We also share the land with the father of the landowner, who is living at the back part of the land and is guarding our houses by day and night.
We provide Wireless Internet through a modem.
As an alternative, we advise to guests (and what we can help with to set up) is Internet on guest's own smartphone with an Indonesian SIM Card. It is quiet easy to arrange and priceless and provides an individual Internet access and a more stable connection.
We have currently three cats, who control that no mice and snakes enter the living areas. If you are a cat lover, you will be happy because they love to be close to anyone who comes. If you do have a cat allergy or just dont like cats around you, our house might not be the right place for you.
COPING WITH TROPICAL NATURE
The picture might make this already clear, but we want to make sure before you book: we are in the middle of tropical nature. So it means if you come, you should be not too scared of nature and its creatures. Please reflect on this by yourself before you book.
We do not promote our place as especially kid friendly as it might not be safe for children with the ponds on our land. Though, we used to have families, who really enjoyed staying in our place and families are welcome when they feel the place fits for them.
We are situated in the middle of a traditional village life. The people in the village are very friendly and welcoming while respecting privacy.
Please be sensitive as well and respect their customs. Don't make loud parties, involving lots of alcohol. Please dress appropriately - our area is not strictly islamic and quiet open-minded. But still, there are customs of women not been dressed too exposed. Please be aware of this.
When making walks through the rice fields, a friendly smile and simple greeting is a nice gestures, while stepping through their farmlands.
As for house rules, we ask our guests to absolutely avoid open fire, as our house construction consists solely of wood. Smoking is allowed in the open areas, but please be cautious.
