Description
Description

Featuring rustic exposed beam 14-ft (4.5 meter) ceilings, exposed brick walls, a fireplace and private garden, this centrally-located luxurious two bedroom townhouse has been immaculately refurbished by a noted interior and furniture designer.

The house in this listing was featured in the September 2014 issue of Maison Française.

This historic two-story townhouse was decorated and furnished by a noted designer whose original handmade furnishings and interiors have appeared in House Beautiful, Elle Decor and Maison Francaise. Immaculately restored, the distinctive home also features a private garden, fireplace, and an unbeatable location in Istanbul's most exciting neighborhood, Cihangir.

Along with location and beautiful design, comfort is one of the chief attractions of this unique house. The two well-appointed bedrooms are furnished with queen size orthopedic beds and private baths with walk-in showers. The upstairs bedroom opens onto a long balcony covered in grape-laden vines and overlooking the garden. The downstairs bedroom features large windows with planted sills and a view of nearby Galata Tower. Both rooms have large wardrobes and receive plenty of natural light.

The well-equipped kitchen features an exposed brick wall with built-in bookshelves, as well as a large refrigerator, four-range stove, oven, microwave, tea kettle, dishwasher, table, and daybed. The kitchen opens onto the garden balcony and its two rocking chairs--a wonderful place to enjoy a leisurely breakfast or an evening aperitif.

Overflowing with greenery during the warmer months, the garden offers a shady retreat from the city as well as the sun. A large outdoor grill and table with seating for up to five beneath spreading laurels and leafy vines makes this the ideal place to enjoy a Turkish-style barbecue.

During the winter months, there is no better place to relax and reflect on a long day spent discovering Istanbul's historic treasures than by the fire. In addition to the fireplace, the spacious upstairs living room includes a large sofa, handmade oak coffee table and three comfortable chairs(URL HIDDEN)

The nearest tramway stop is only five minutes away by foot, providing easy access to many of Istanbul's major attractions, including the Golden Horn and Old City, home of Topkapi Palace and Hagia Sofia. The Taksim area, which perfectly fits the famous “Where East Meets West” description of Istanbul is only a ten-minute walk away. Cihangir, an attraction in its own right, is full of boutiques, cafes, and restaurants--as well as being the location of author Orhan Pamuk's popular Museum of Innocence.

Guests have free reign of the entire house and garden.

I will meet you upon arrival for check-in to show the house and get you situated. Nobody knows Istanbul like I do, so you'll have an expert guide to the neighborhood and city in addition to a charming host! :)

With everything from antique shops to designer boutiques, and traditional Turkish tea gardens to bars, Cihangir has got something for everyone. Guests should definitely spend some time exploring the neighborhood and check out the local scene once they've hit the tourist spots. This is one of the coolest neighborhoods in Europe.

The house is a five minute walk away from the tram (that takes you to Old City), and less than a 10 min walk to Istiklal and Taksim Square.

Merhaba! I'm an Istanbul-based designer of furniture, interiors, and handcrafts. My work has been featured in House Beautiful and Maison Française, as well as many online publications, such as Time Out, Elle Decor, Daily Secret and Guide Istanbul. I am renting out my house, which is clean, centrally-located, and furnished with an interesting mix of rustic and modern pieces that make for a very relaxing and comfortable stay. When not working, I enjoy taking advantage of all that this wonderful city has to offer --trying new restaurants or cafes, visiting galleries and museums, or running along the Bosporus.
