Description

This cosy double room has great views out over the loch. It is the most private of the three upstairs rooms in the Mother Teat cabin. It has its own staircase to the shared kitchen/sitting room, futon bed and low ceiling -not for very tall people!

This double room has great views out over the loch and up Monachyle Glen. It has its own stairs down to the large communal area comprising the fully equipped kitchen: electric oven and gas hob, microwave, kettle, toaster and fridge/freezer, and the cosy curtained sitting area with wood burning stove.
The bathroom has separate toilet and (electric) shower cubicles. It has a hand wash basin, washing machine and clothes wash sink area.

The cabin is heated by electric radiator heaters in each room and a large wood burning stove. Hot water is heated by an electric immersion system, Electricity is on a £1 coin meter. There are plenty of power points.
The cabin is 50 yards from the Loch Voil Hostel which has internet access. There is ample parking in front of the cabin itself.

There are stunning views from the cabin over the loch and up Monachyle Glen. The surrounding area is full of wild life including deer, foxes, otters, pine martens and many varieties of birds. Walking is possible along the loch side and up the surrounding hills including Munros Ben Mor and Stabinion and adjacent Corbetts. Fishing and boating on the two lochs is also an option and National Cycle Routes pass nearby.

Access is by car along an unpaved track or by subsidised taxi from the Balquhidder Road End on the A84 (King’ House Hotel) to the Monachyle Mhor Hotel which is on the North side of the glen. From there a short walk down a field and stepping stones or ferry will bring you here. Phone from the main road to let us know you are getting nearer -especially if you want a ferry pick-up.
Edinburgh and Glasgow airports are no more than two hours drive away and there are plentiful Ryanair Flights from all over Europe to Edinburgh.

This place is unique as it is a microcosm of all that is best about the Scottish Highlands. The beauty of the landscape and the closeness to nature are unrivalled. This is the place for people who want a taste of adventure in the wild without having to travel too far from an airport. It is an ideal stopover point for people travelling on up to Skye and the North West Highlands.

Guests can use all the facilities of the Mother Teat cabin. In addition they can use the Loch Voil Hostel wife, borrow wellington boots and, if they ask, rent the boat.

We will greet you when you are arrive and are available if you need help but otherwise your time is your own!

Les gave us a detailed description on how to get there and they welcomed us and showed us around when we got there. However, the road to get there is in poor condition and the hostel could be a little cleaner. Yet the landscape is breathtaking and beautiful.

We had a great time at Les's place. The Ma Teat Cabin is spacious, comfortable and welcoming. We were a big family of 10 and still felt there was room for more. The location is idyllic, right on the shore of the loch, with baaing sheep and the calm hills all around. Definitely recommend, and will try to come back, Thank You Les!

Had a great time staying here. It's really off the beaten track which is exactly what we were looking for. The surrounding scenery is breathtaking and you really are by yourself. It's the perfect place if you want to leave all mod-cons behind. The wood burner keeps the living room warm if you start it early enough, the shower was warm and good pressure and £2 was enough for electricity for 3 days with 4 people using lights/heaters etc. Duvet on the bed was lovely and warm and the view out of the window was amazing. There was wifi in a nearby building but I think that misses the point of why you would stay here. Plenty of interesting historical things nearby, but in terms of walking distance there's not anything. It is nature in all its glory!

If you want to get away from everything and everyone, save for a few friendly sheep. This is the place to do it. The cabin is rustic and cozy, the bad were comfortable, and the scenery was gorgeous. The cabin was situated right between the shores of the beautiful lochs Voil and Doine in the lovely village of Balquhidder. One amazing thing that Les doesn't mention in the listing, is that right on her property is a group of standing stones which are likely Pictish and therefore ancient. Les was helpful and friendly as well and our stay was very enjoyable. One thing you need to make sure of though, follow the signs for Loch Voil Hostel very closely because it's easy to take a wrong turn. Also the road is better suited to a taller car with four wheel drive as it is bumpy and very long.

If you've ever wished to step off the edge of the planet for a few days and disappear into the wild, but without sleeping out in the rain - the MaTeat cabin is ideal for you. The setting could not be more beautiful. To wake up looking at the loch and mountains after falling asleep with no sounds of cars or artificial lights outside. Perfect. Communications were with volunteers living there, but quite satisfactory both before our arrival and during our stay. The cabin is quite basic, but had all we needed and its minimalism is part of its charm. There's a wood burning stove, a good hot water shower, pleasant living room and a fully equipped kitchen. One must take into account that it's either a long dirt road or ferry to arrive and exit, so it's advisable to arrive with sufficient supplies. The electricity is on a meter, but being mindful of it, we spent about a pound a day. It was very pleasant to simply walk around the farm, along the loch or in the surrounding woods. It's also not so bad a ride to exit and there are great hiking opportunities in the area. For the more romantically inclined (we had a baby in tow), there are several other options at the farm, including a few magical cabins that came out of a dream.

Love travel, especially in the Scottish Highlands and Islands. Have visited India, China, USA and Mexico and even Siberia. Love countries with indigenous cultural traditions - like our very own Gaelic-speaking Scotland. Worked in Gaelic animation for 20 years. Before that there was the Book of Am and now there are 7 grand-children...
