Our artsy, roomy Loft with original pine floors has a true city feeling! Each guest suite comfortably fits up to three. We are centrally located for access to major freeways and institutions. Enjoy our cozy library upstairs, and the cafe downstairs.
Float above the crowd in this 2nd story Art Deco era Commercial Building Loft and enjoy the peace and tranquility of a large private room and bath suite, well stocked, cozy library and all the comforts of home.
We do not accept reservations placed solely on behalf of a third party. We require that your profile be completed and verified, as do most AIRBNB Hosts, and that you give us the reason for your visit to our fair city, please.
We offer 2 Suites in the Liermann Loft - a 6000 SF rehabbed, re-purposed, 1929 Furniture Store, custom-designed Loft. We occupy the 3rd suite, the Master bedroom. John and I are urban pioneers and invite you to enjoy a snippet of the adventure, without the subsequent commitment.
We also offer Meeting and Event space rental in the Loft and in the Café or Conference Room downstairs, and Catering through our Café.
Coffee or tea in the morning is included in your stay. And, of course, a real breakfast is available downstairs at the cafe, after 10 AM. :-)
We prefer that you not cook meals in the kitchen. Warming something up in the microwave is fine.
Fridge privileges: You are welcome to store one or two SMALL items in the fridge if needed, like leftover takeout containers, but we expect you will be going out for meals. So many fun dining options nearby!
If you need more room than that for refrigerated items, please bring a cooler and ice that you can keep in your room. If needed we can provide a cooler for you.
Each suite is a relaxing, spacious room with a queen bed and a Jack & Jill bathroom, with a designated sink and toilet, featuring a (shared) Jacuzzi bath & shower. The Jacuzzi is always ready for soaking or bubbling.
If you do book a suite with us, you will receive a Confirmation that includes our HOUSE MANUAL. Please be sure to read the Manual, as it contains important info regarding CHECK-IN AND OUT etc, that you will need if we are not available when you arrive or leave.
We are 2 freeway exits from Downtown, or about 5 miles. It's 40 minutes by bus, 11 minutes by car, 30 minutes by bicycle (we do have a bicycle) and 1.5 hour to walk. St Louis doesn't have the most extensive public transit, but there IS a bus stop right at our corner.
Your own Café!
Well, sort of.
We own, operate and live above Urban Eats Cafe & Bar+, and the Urban Arts Collective, in the Liermann Loft. The Cafe is a neighborhood cafe with a social enterprise mission: Revitalization using the vehicles of food, art and gathering space to create community. The Cafe boasts a full line of espresso drinks, real fruit smoothies, unique, mouthwatering, sophisticated breakfast, lunch and dinner entrees, appetizers, soups, salads and desserts, made with premium fresh ingredients (no iceberg lettuce here). Urban Eats has substantial offerings in the Vegetarian and Vegan categories and crew is trained to help with any special dietary needs.
Oh yes, let's not forget- the Cafe DOES have a full bar, complete with fresh-juiced cocktails (like the delightfully refreshing Rum Bunny- freshly juiced carrots, ginger, pineapple and orange juice mixed with rum.) Get some real food in you, along with your preferred Happy Juice. You can finally feel good about feeling good!
Ok, back to the Liermann Loft itself:
We have two friendly dogs, Marley, an 80 pound Weimaraner & Jasper, a 4 pound Yorkie, who will be happy to love you up, or remain in their own world of doggie delight in our Suite, if you prefer. They are cool with either scenario.
Dogs are not allowed on the furniture, btw.
St Louis is an incredibly accessible small city, with many cultural institutions offering free admission. What’s not to love?
Our building is located in south St Louis City, two blocks East on Meramec from Grand Avenue, a major thoroughfare, on one side. On the other side, we are about 8 blocks West of Interstate 55, which takes you EVERYWHERE (including one exit North to the Anheuser Busch Brewery with its free tours). Did I mention we have the original Ted Drewes Frozen Custard just West of us, at the intersection of Meramec and Grand?
We are South of:
The Missouri Botanical Garden is just north of us off Grand, as is Tower Grove Park with all its historic Pavilions. We are just south of the SLU campus, and all its attendant amenities. The Liermann Loft is also one block South of the Thomas Dunn education Center and beautiful Marquette Park, replete with tennis courts, soccer and rugby leagues and City outdoor swimming pool and Rec Center. Again, our Loft is very convenient to Downtown, including such sites as City Garden, the Museum and the Arch, Stadium, Soulard, Lafayette Square, and Benton Park. Very close to Antique Row and the Cherokee Arts district, music venues such as Off Broadway, BB’s Jazz Blues and Soup, and much more. You may want to bring bicycles and explored the city on two wheels. We have a spare bike guests can use, tho you may have to air the tires.
We are North of:
Are you a Y member? We have a brand new $22 Million dollar YMCA and Waterpark just 16 blocks South, located in historic Carondelet Park. You can get your Urban Eats fix at our Y concession, Urban Eats Parkside, too, in the summer. There is also a Schnucks Grocery, several fast food joints, QDoba, Starbucks and Office Max in Loughborough Commons, on the South side of Carondelet Park.
Ask us about the History of Dutchtown, Stringtown Road, the French Connection, and the Streetcar turnaround! We love to share. We are right on a Bike St Louis Path and one block away from the historic St Anthony of Padua Catholic Church and Franciscan Friary.
Interested in Historic Walking Tours? Our Staff Historian and Author lives just a few blocks away and is available ala cart or may have a tour planned that you could join.
The Café has occasional Karaoke nights, Art Brunch Sundays weekly, Board Game Meetups twice monthly (6-midnite, 2nd & 4th Friday) and a variety of other fun things going on.
Across the street is Winkelmann Drugs, a 3rd generation family drug store, a comic book store, a variety of antique shops and to die-for-resale shops.
Great restaurants of all kinds reside here- many of them are here in South City and very easy to get to from here. Thai, Middle Eastern, Chinese, Vietnamese, classic American and German.
Did you know St. Louis has many choices in pizza? We can tell you where to get any kind you may fancy: from thick crust to thin, Chicago style to New York style, from traditional to adventurous.
There are lots of great breakfast options, from the Café downstairs to within a mile or two. Maybe have an early coffee in the Loft library, and then your full breakfast in the Café while you catch up on your email (free wi fi) or favorite magazine, or browse the new art or books by local authors. Browse further afield and sample some other local eateries.
Close to Downtown City Center, Conferences
We are quite close to Downtown and many unique historic areas (Soulard, Lafayette Square, Benton Park, Shaw garden Neighborhood, Tower Grove South, The Grove, little Mexico, the Hill, Grand South Grand International district), and easily accessible to downtown, which is great for guests attending conferences and trainings at the downtown hotels.
We are not as accessible to the Central West End or Washington University and the Delmar Loop, so guests who have lots to do in that part of town will find this location a little bit out of the way. We are 7-10 miles to that very separate part of town, and no real direct public transportation.
No TV in the bedrooms, but there is a TV and all you need to relax and watch a movie or a game. Wireless internet throughout the building, of course.
We are generally on site, in the Café or our other offices downstairs, occupying the Master Bedroom suite or otherwise easily accessible via text.
Getting around & Parking
Bikes are very useful in the city. And a vehicle makes it really simple. Just about anywhere you want to go can be reached in 30 minutes or less. St Louis has virtually NO traffic issues compared to cities like Chicago or LA.
We have no garage or "secured" parking. There is PLENTY of street parking, so you’ll be just like us, the natives. We do have a couple spaces OFF the street that might be available, but they are not covered and they back onto our alley. So, as in any urban area, you would NOT want to leave belongings visible inside your car.
It’s a developing city neighborhood, so it doesn't have the patina of suburban "safety". Crime can happen anywhere, and does. We live here, (12 years) we park our cars on the street, we walk our 4 pound Yorkie at midnight. But we are city & travel savvy people. In general, if you are more comfortable operating in any suburb than in any city, you should probably stay in a suburban location.
Free parking on Virginia, our side street, or free parking half a block north or south of us.
Accès des voyageurs
Guests will have access to our Library, with St Louis area books. The kitchen is available with coffee, microwave, ice & water and the living room with the TV. There is a small lounge seating area outside Suite A as well, for visiting or browsing our zillions of diverse magazines.
You will have a private bedroom suite, with ITS OWN TOILET AND SINK, but the SHOWER/Jacuzzi tub is SHARED with the 2nd guest suite. We clean and sanitize, of course, but please rinse the shower/tub after use, as you would want others to do for you. We all have a stray hair, people. Just rinse it down. :-)
Échanges avec les voyageurs
Our interaction with guests varies tremendously, depending on our schedule and events we may be running on, or off, site. Guests should plan to be self-sufficient. We are always available by text or phone.
Check in is after 3 PM, but MUST be before 9 PM, weekdays, and before 6 PM on Fri-Sat-Sun please. Exceptions can be made on Board Game Fridays when we are usually round late. Check out is 12 noon.
We like to know a little more about guests coming to our home. For us to consider your booking, we request, as do most hosts, that you please finish your profile AND let us know why you are visiting our fair city.
Once you have booked, please read the instructions for CHECKING IN & OUT, and being in our space IN ADVANCE of your visit.
1. Smoking outdoors only.
2. Please be considerate of the NEXT guests staying in your suite- apply cologne or perfume OUTSIDE of your suite in the main living area or as you are leaving the Loft for a day of fun.
3. Everyone must be civilized and pleasant, as my friend Susan says: "all the time".
4. We are very busy with 3 businesses and a non-profit, and we live and work in this very unique space above Urban Eats Cafe. Guests really must be self-sufficient and drama free.
5. We are NOT set up to accommodate children or pets at this time, sorry.
6. Please return all reading materials to the space in which you found them. Lots of people like to enjoy our books and magazines, but won't be able to do so if they are not in their proper places (all St Louis books live on the library table, for example)
