À propos de ce logement

Rusticate in style! Whether you're looking for an action-packed family holiday, a romantic getaway, or a serene place to work on those memoirs, this beautiful vintage farmhouse is the perfect place to fall in love with Acadia and Downeast Maine.

Le logement

The farmhouse is situated on over two acres of open grass and fruit trees, surrounded by woods with not a neighbor in sight. Most rooms face south, with broad, bright views of Lucky's Field and the mountains of Acadia National Park beyond.

This old house is equipped with all modern conveniences, from wi-fi, smart TV, and bluetooth stereo to the fully-equipped gourmet kitchen, plus outdoor games and seating, a well-stocked library of books, and much more. The decor is elegant, cheerful, and comfortable. Each room is painted a different color. Vintage furniture includes incredibly comfy couches, a large desk, and seating for up to six. Whimsical details throughout the house are designed to bring a smile.

As of Spring 2017, we’ve completed some significant upgrades to the house, including a stylishly remodeled bathroom upstairs, new high-performance washer/dryer, and fresh paint in several rooms.

Outside: a front porch under the lilacs provides a pleasant spot to relax in one of the Adirondack chairs and take in the surrounding beauty. The back patio, with a new picnic table and setee, makes for memorable evening gatherings and barbecues. The fragrant perennial garden out front attracts butterflies and hummingbirds. The wildlife here is spectacular: you’re likely to spot eagles, osprey, and a variety of warblers in the woods. Foxes and deer are not uncommon; we’ve also seen moose, bear and bobcat from the kitchen window. At dusk, you may hear the drumming of a grouse or the ethereal song of a thrush. Fireflies provide lively evening entertainment. Spring brings the timberdoodles and spring peepers, and in the autumn, the foliage is phenomenal.

Outdoor amenities include a picnic table, a charcoal barbecue, kayaks (two singles and a double), bicycles (5 adult mountain bikes, 1-2 kid-size), as well as beach chairs, coolers, and clamming equipment you can take to the nearby beaches. You'll also find assorted games to take out on the lawn.

Accès des voyageurs

Guests are free to make themselves at home at the farmhouse.

Échanges avec les voyageurs

We live part time at the farmhouse, the remainder of the time in San Francisco. We have a local property manager who keeps an eye on things while we're gone.

Autres remarques

Be aware that the doorway to the sailors' room (with twin beds) has a curtain, not a full door.

We offer $100 off our weekly rate for multiple-week stays, and $100 off for returning guests.

We love this house. It makes us happy to be able to share it with like-minded guests when we can't be here ourselves, and we work hard to make it a restful and rewarding experience for you. It is an old house, however, so we ask that you treat it gently and with respect.

Check-in time is 3 PM or later. Check-out time is 10 AM sharp; our cleaners will arrive to begin cleaning at that time. Late check-out may incur extra charges.

Well-behaved dogs are welcome at an additional $15/day per pet. Please be flea-free and up-to-date on vaccinations, and pick up after your pup.

The house is ideally outfitted for 2-6 guests. Extra guests require prior approval.

Maid service and garbage removal during your stay are not included in the rental rate. We provide trash receptacles that should be adequate for weekly stays. Additional trash removal will incur a $20 fee per pick-up.

No smoking inside the house.

No vacationing students or singles under 25 unless accompanied by an adult.

The woodstove is not to be used except in case of emergency.

Beautiful and relaxing country home. We visited with our dogs and friends and had such a relaxing getaway. Very close to Acadia national park without all the hustle and bustle. Would definitely recommend this stay.

This farmhouse was wonderful! It was so relaxing, and it wasn't too far from Acadia, which was terrific. The kitchen was well-stocked, and the living space was HUGE!! Our family of 5 had such a great time.

What a wonderful retreat! All was just as posted. Clean, quiet, comfy. Our family of 5 loved our time here. We used the kayaks at Marlboro beach, enjoyed the hammock, and even played some badminton. Yes, it's about 30 minutes to most things, but we preferred "coming home" to this roomy house after a day of hiking in Acadia, or doing tourist-y things over staying at a crowded, cramped motel room. Could not recommend it more highly.

What a great farmhouse! Lee was extremely communicative and provided ample materials about the area (including a fantastic map pinned with favorite hikes, swims and restaurants). The home had a lot of cool antiques, furniture and books, perfect for a rainy day. The kitchen was well-stocked with cooking, grilling and baking essentials. It was only a couple minute drive to a local pond with a small beach area, as well as a beautiful oceanfront state park. The definite highlight of our trip was the proximity to Mount Desert Island.

My husband and I enjoyed our stay at Fox Hollow Farm! The house is in a quiet, relaxing location that is only a short drive to the beach and Acadia National Park. The house was very charming and comfortable. We loved the well-stocked kitchen and spent a lot of time hanging out in the sun room. Lee and Phil were very kind and accommodating, especially when we accidentally locked ourselves out. They responded quickly and resolved the situation. I can't say enough good things! We can't wait to visit again!

Phillip and I are a little bit city mouse, a little bit country mouse. We keep a small home in San Francisco as well as a farmhouse in Maine. When we’re not here, we’re usually there.

Some of our favorite things: twangy guitars; sun and snow; meandering bike rides; time to read; working in the garden…honest work. We’re both creative-y types. My day job is designer, but I dream of farming some day. We both keep studios where we paint and draw and stuff.

We’re blessed to have a little foothold on each coast, and the opportunity to travel across country a few times a year, often by car and with dog in tow. Shifting perspectives regularly keeps us from getting too complacent about anything.

And we love sharing a bit of ourselves with like-minded travelers. We strive to provide for our guests a warm and inspiring home base for exploring new corners of the world, and hope that our guests leave rejuvenated, with spirit rekindled.
