Le logement

Surrounded by gardens of hydrangeas, roses and lavender, our Nantucket home has become our summer retreat. We are offering a large 16x20 first floor bedroom with two twin beds and private bath. It is very private as it was built as the "ell" on one side of our reproduction colonial post and beam home. There are 4 large windows in this bright and cheerful room which we use as a library/den. We have wireless internet, but no cable tv. There is an extensive library of books on Nantucket, spirituality, art, travel, and gardening among hundreds of fiction and non-fiction titles. Two people can be comfortably accommodated. It is extremely peaceful and relaxing as it is very set back from the road which connects the property to the rest of Nantucket so easily by bus, bicycle, or walking.

Accès des voyageurs

Guests will have access to a large private bedroom and full bathroom. There is no access to the rest of the house. No kitchen/cooking facilities are being offered.

Échanges avec les voyageurs

We will meet guests, show them the bedroom and bathroom and then respect their privacy. We will be at the house during guest stays.

Le quartier

Nantucket is called the "Faraway Isle" and the "Grey Lady." All summer long the sun shines in an indescribably beautiful way. Mornings may begin with a gentle misty fog that you can walk through on an early walk, and by 7 or 8, the sun shines in all its glory. A variety of restaurants, cafes, and a new grocery store with eating area are within easy walking distance for breakfast, lunch, and dinners out. We are located in the year-round mid-island area with the NRTA bus stop a block away.

For short stays, it is best to get around by bicycle, walking, taxi, or bus, as the cost of bringing a car to Nantucket is high. Go to the Steamship Authority website for prices/schedules for car ferry and passenger rates.
We are centrally located in the mid-island area of Nantucket. The bus stops one block away from the house all summer. We are 800 steps from the post office, the bank, a brand new grocery store, pharmacy, many artisan shops, and a variety of restaurants. Our house is a 10 minute bike ride from the wonderful south shore beaches. We are a 30 minute walk from the ferry terminals and the Historic District downtown area of Nantucket. The house is on the Surfside Bike Path which connects to all of the other many bike paths on Nantucket island.

We felt incredibly welcomed and comfortable at Jade and Jeff's home in Nantucket. They were very kind to pick us up from the ferry, and even drove us to the wedding that we were attending. They made sure that we had everything we needed including towels, bath products, fans to keep the room cool, umbrellas, breakfast/coffee and wifi. Our bedroom and bathroom were both very spacious and we had plenty of privacy. The house is located on a quiet street in a good location. We caught the bus right across the street and it was less than a 10 minute ride into town and a 15 minute ride to Sconset. A brand new grocery store and several restaurants are within walking distance. This was a lovely (and affordable!) place to stay in Nantucket, and we would definitely stay there again.

Jade and her husband were wonderful hosts. They are really nice people and did everything possible to make our experience on the island a pleasant one. They picked us up and dropped us off at the ferry, let us use their bikes whenever we wanted and even offered to take us kayaking. They also provided coffee every morning and offered us breakfast. Made us feel welcome while allowing us to have our privacy. The house is very nice, clean and well maintained. The room and bathroom were very spacious and private. The wave shuttle passes right in from of the house which was very convenient. We also walked to town many times and that took about 30 min but was very pleasant. We biked to Cisco & surfside beaches from the house as they are well connected with bike paths. We loved our experience and would gladly stay again.

We were made to feel very welcome by Jade our host. She even gave us a mini-tour of the key landmarks in the town after kindly picking us up from the ferry. She has a most interesting house and lovely garden. It was a peaceful location that we appreciated after the touristy feel of some parts of Nantucket. It was a little further from town than we had envisaged but with the frequent bus service from close by into town and around the island it presented no problem. We were also able to walk to a fine new restaurant, Atlas, from the house as well as a spanking new Stop and Shop. Given that we only had two nights on the island, this was so much more memorable than staying in a motel or a hotel.

Jade was an incredibly welcoming host. She called us the day before to confirm details and offered to pick us up at the airport/ferry. She provided us with tons of insight to the area, including brochures and guidebooks as well as personal recommendations. She offered the use of her bikes and her fridge as well as some breakfast basics. We were in town for a wedding so most of our activities were already planned, but it was very thoughtful and helpful. She was as happy to carry on pleasant chit chat as she was considerate of our space when we wanted privacy. We felt very comfortable the entire time there. One thing to note about the accommodations is that the 2 beds are two twin beds which was specified in the listing. Just might be surprising to other potential couples given they also required that any couples be married. The room also got a little chilly at night (the gas fireplace in the room wasn't working), but they provided tons of blankets so we were comfortable. The cottage is lovely, with lots of space in both the bedroom and bathroom, and beautiful landscaping. It's very conveniently located on a major public transit route (the bus stop is across the street) as well as an easy walk to some restaurants and a grocery store. One other thing to note is that they do not keep the house locked (only one key on hand), but this didn't cause any trouble for us as the island seems very safe. Just in case you might be traveling with anything you'd feel really uncomfortable leaving unsecured. We felt like this was a great option for what we needed, especially given the price, accommodations and convenience. Thanks Jade!

My husband and I are retired. He was a nurse for 30 years and I was a special education teacher. We have two grown children and three grandchildren. Our NH property has extensive perennial and organic vegetable gardens, a pond, and a woodland path. I am an ardent gardener and love to grow roses and foxgloves, along with garlic, tomatoes, and basil for Italian cooking. Our New Hampshire house is a typical New England farmhouse that has been added onto many times over the years. Although we do have internet, we have no television. We value the wonderful peace and quiet in our serene setting located a short walk from the Sant Bani Ashram, or a short drive to several large lakes and the Tanger Outlet Mall. The famed White Mountains of New Hampshire are a one hour drive north of us. We have traveled extensively in the U.S., as well as to Europe, Mexico, Canada, and India. We follow the teachings of Surat Shabd Yoga, including non-violence and meditation. Our life motto comes from our spiritual teacher Kirpal Singh: Go Jolly--Do Good, Be Good, Be One. During the summer, from mid May to early October, we offer Airb&b space in our Nantucket home, close to beaches, bike paths, and historic downtown area. We discovered Nantucket island 23 years ago and slowly developed the property. We love to ride our bikes, take out our kayaks and Compass Cat sailboat, and go to the many beaches when we are in Nantucket.
