Recommended local sites:
La Roque sur Ceze (UNESCO)
The spectacular cascades of La Roque sur Ceze (UNESCO) and swimming/ picnicking in the river. A location mostly used by locals, an undiscovered gem for most tourists. Visit the nearby village La Roque sur Ceze one of the most beautiful and authentic villages in the area.

Pont du Gard (UNESCO)
The Pont du Gard (literally: Gard Bridge) is an impressive ancient Roman aqueduct bridge from BC that crosses the Gardon River and was built under the emperor Claude, around 50 AD. The aqueduct was built in order to answer the urban expansion of Nîmes (Nemausus), important city of the province, and its water requirements. The water was drawn from the spring of Eure in Uzès and poured in the conduits of the Castellum Divisarium (water tower) in Nîmes. There are plenty of activities in summer such as swimming, kayaking, picnicking, shops, restaurants and cafés.

Avignon (UNESCO)
The stunning city of Avignon with it's Palais de Pape (Palace of the Popes) bordered by the left bank of the Rhône river. Often referred to as the "City of Popes" because of the presence of popes and antipopes from 1309 to 1423 during the Catholic schism, it is a perfectly preserved walled city, fabulous for shopping and restaurants, theatre and cinemas (english versions), walks along the river, and it's quaint neighbouring village Villeneuve les Avignon. Famous annual Festival of Avignon ( 4th - 25th July 2014)

Amphitheatre of Orange (UNESCO) and Opera Festival
The Roman Theater of Orange is, without doubt, one of the finest remains of the Roman Empire and, as such, has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage site. It is, in fact, the best preserved theatre in the whole of Europe. The theatre is extraordinary in that it has retained its magnificent stage wall. Because of the wall it still has wonderful acoustics. It was a great centre for shows in Roman times and still draws huge audiences to musical events today such as the famous annual summer opera festival held each August.

Nimes
Nîmes has a rich history, dating back to the Roman Empire, and is a popular tourist destination. Visit the Romain arena (still used today for bull fighting andas a concert arena), The Maison Carrée (Square House), a small Roman temple dedicated to sons of Agrippa was built c. 19 BC., The 18th-century Jardins de la Fontaine (Gardens of the Fountain) built around the roman thermae ruins.

The Gorges of Ardeche
The plateau of the Ardeche River has extensive standing stones erected thousands of years ago.The river is the largest natural canyon in Europe and the caves that dot the cliffs (which go as high as 300 m (1,000 feet)) are known for signs of prehistoric inhabitants (arrowheads and flint knives are often found). A great area for swimming, picnicking, hiking ... and water sports such as canoeing, rafting, fishing... and adventure sports such as rock climbing.

Village Markets of Provence
Shopping in a local markets is one of the great pleasures of a French vacation and Provence has some of the best markets in the whole country. From fresh flowers to fish, brocante to antiques, you will find fabulous souvenirs and gifts ranging from local potteries, beautiful French materials (table cloths, bedspreads...) , lavender scented soaps and perfumes to provençal herbs and spices, not to mention the fabulous cheeses and local wines and produce. Markets are on daily alternating local villages in the area. Don’t miss the famous Uzes market held every Saturday morning!! (20 mins from the homestead)

Camargue
The Camargue, Western Europe’s largest river delta, covers an area of over 900 square kilometres – a wild landscape of red salt lagoons teeming with flamingoes, reedy marches and rice paddies, herds of wild white Camargue Horses and farms where Europe’s only cowboys –the Gardiens – raise fighting black bulls for the bullrings of Languedoc and Spain.
