Randall's August 2017 review is accurate. We booked this place before Randall's review was written, and we don't enjoy writing less than glowing reviews of the places where we stay. This is a fantastic city, the location is perfect, and there is a lot of promise with this apartment. Unfortunately, the place is in need of an update to match the pictures. The shower issue Randall identified is correct. It is literally in a closet and we didn't use it because it needed re-grouting. On a positive note, we arrived in Edinburgh mid-morning, and the hosts allowed us to check in before the 2pm time. We greatly appreciated this gesture.

Perfect hosts .. my booking was literally last minute and hosts managed to hand over the keys within 1 hour of me arriving in Edinburgh .. property is very spacious , clean and modern and walking distance from city centre .. perfect and highly recommend

Darlene is a very nice lady who is responsive and a good hostess. The flat is spacious and comfortable. The location is great, away from the extreme crowds of downtown Edinburgh in the summer but close enough for easy access. The bedroom and kitchen look out over beautiful gardens. There are drawbacks that you need to be aware of before booking. The building and apartment are quite run down. The front door to the apartment building does not latch closed unless pushed into place. It was left open several times and is therefore a security concern. residents in the building use the lobby area for storage of junk. The common areas can be described at best, as dingy. The apartment has several significant drawbacks. Lighting is poor. There is nowhere you can lay down and read in the apartment due to the lack of usable light at both beds and the sofa. The kitchen is in poor repair and needs work. The counter tops are butcher block which has been badly damaged by water near the sink and shows signs of mildew. Small wonder there is no tray beneath the disk rack. We used the only thing we could find, a cutting board to try to keep the water from running into the butcher block and causing more damage. The dish washers front panel was off. In the bathroom the travertine tile is stained. The shower is located in a closet off the bathroom. There is significant water damage here too. The place in not really fully prepared for letting. There are no written instructions posted or left anywhere for you to know the practicalities of staying there. Items like discarding trash and recycling, operation of appliances are left to you to figure out. The higher rated places I have stayed have this. I did not want to be this critical, Darlene is a very nice lady, but I think it is important that people get a realistic description of the place they are going to let. Some of the issues are simple carelessness while other are long term neglect. I hope she uses the criticism constructively to improve the place. It would be great to stay there again if she did, but in its current condition, I would look elsewhere.

We had a wonderful time at Jason & Darlene's place. If Edinburgh was not so lovely we would have totally enjoyed staying in their home the entire time ;) Some reflections.. The location was ideal, better then described. A quiet residential area 2 blocks from central Edinburgh liveliness, train/tram stops and sights. The apartment was grand yet cosy, with a street facing bedroom with pretty city views and a courtyard facing tranquil master bedroom. With nearby grocery, we often cooked dinner using the large, fully equipped kitchen and enjoyed the cozy lit dinning room. The hosts were delightful, easy to contact and full of answers. We were greeted with a cheerful smile and a nice little tour even though we were quite late from the airport. We would definitely recommend Jason & Daralene's place to our friends!

Great location with easy walking access to everywhere. We loved the massive windows in the lounge such that we could sit, read and watch life pass by.
