Le logement

The name may conjure up images of Miss Havisham's crumbling mansion, but rest assured that The Dusty Victorian is very clean and well-maintained. When we first entered, it felt like walking into a dusty dream. Big and beautiful, built in 1889, the Dusty Victorian is located on a hill in the historic and picturesque stone town of St Marys, The Dusty Victorian is a fine example of a Folk Victorian villa with an Italianate influence. We have great expectations for our home and are constantly working at preserving and restoring its inherent charm. We are very proud that The Dusty Victorian is designated heritage, insuring that all her unique and original details will be protected for future generations to enjoy.

Enjoy our beautiful Victorian downtown with its many shops and restaurants. Our unique Grand Trunk nature trail trestle bridge is located nearby, but more about the parks and trails in St Marys can be found on the town's website. The Wildwood Conservation Area, just outside St Marys, is also perfect for nature lovers.

Always in season, St Marys has many festivals and events planned year round. Of course, Stratford's theaters, shops and restaurants are just 20 minutes away.

Should you be travelling alone, or part of a trio, the English study is appointed with a single bed, a night table, three bookcases, a reading chair and an antique writing desk. (Please see our other listing, The Dusty Victorian,St Marys-Queen, for rate and pics of the double occupancy room). For a reasonable fee, this room can accommodate two more people with folding guest beds (weight restriction apply for guest bed). The guest bathroom has a contemporary shower and an antique slipper bath. Body cleanser and shampoo along with fresh towels are provided.

For breakfast, we offer home baked breads and muffins, free range eggs, seasonal fresh fruits, cereal, coffee, tea, milk and juice. As we believe in locally grown produce, selection will vary. All is served in the formal dinning room.

My husband Brian is a writer, I'm an artist and our daughter is a student. We, including our two small non-shedding dogs, will do our best to make your stay very enjoyable. We also have three little birds, you won't see them, but you will hear them. If you mind animal companions, then the Dusty Victorian is not for you. Note that the many steps leading up to our house and the bedrooms may be challenging to people with mobility issues. Those many steps can be hazardous to small children, we regretfully, can not accept children under 10 years old.

Plan ahead for the 2017 theatre season in Stratford. Looking forward to seeing you. Ample parking available. Late (after the theatre) check ins are not a problem. Should you be traveling by train and require pick-up and drop-off from the St Marys train station, we will be happy to provide this complementary service.
You can do a search on The Dusty Victorian to read a blog about the house and its owners.

Although we are not a retired couple, both my husband and I work from home so there's always someone home to answer questions or offer suggestions.

Le quartier

We are located just three blocks from the downtown. Living in a small town, I love that everything is walking distance and we can find almost everything we need. The best sunsets can be experienced on the Nature Trail nearby, walking on the Sarnia Bridge. St Marys' history is seen along the way with its antique stone cottages and Victorian houses. See our Guidebook for many more suggestions.

St Marys has its own train station. It's a small town so there are no public transit to speak of, but we have a few privately operated taxi drivers. See our guidebook for phone numbers.

in addition to booking the Queen room, we also booked the Single for my sister in law. The same comments apply to our other review, as to this one. In addition, this room is stunning! the library grandeur of this room is so warm and welcoming. It was an inspirational place to relax and catch up on some reading, do some writing at the inviting desk and enjoy the beautiful view over the park and town of St. Mary's.

We had a wonderful Mother's day stay with Anyes and Brian. The town and home are both well worth visiting. Anyes and Brian are wonderful hosts who have travelled as well and can dialogue on a variety of interesting topics. The dogs are delightful! My son and I knew this was a place to return to within moments of our arrival. I cannot imagine one not having an enjoyable stay with Anyes and Brian. Thank you to you both!

Anyes and Brian know how to host! Their B&B is GORGEOUS and the service is impeccable. We all loved the authentic Victorian accomodations complete with push button light switches. I started with a booking for the single room and then changed the booking at least three times as more and more friends decided to join me in St. Marys. We ended up with both rooms and a cot! Anyes and Brian welcomed us into their home with open arms. They offered their main floor library (filled with Canadian authors) to us for the evening so we could catch up and visit with each other. They even provided us with wine glasses when they saw our bottles of wine. The queen size bed was fabulous and we loved the flannel sheets. Our friends said that the single bed and cot were also comfortable. The towels were fluffy and plentiful. I loved the soaps and lotions provided in large bathroom (complete with a clawfoot tub and separate shower). The heated floor in the bathroom was an unexpected treat . At breakfast someone asked for decaf coffee. Brian made a special trip to get the coffee and had it brewed for her in minutes. The bread was warm and fresh as were the muffins. The table was beautifully set. This is a first rate B&B - don't hesitate to stay here. I know I will be back for sure.

The Busby family were the ideal Airbnb hosts. Young and enthusiastic, it's clear that they enjoy hosting guests in their beautiful home. They were all very welcoming, even their three well-behaved rescue dogs. Brian and Astrid were up late to accommodate my late check in, and we're very gracious about it. When I got to my room (English study), I couldn't get over all the thoughtful touches Anyes put in to making sure I had all the comforts of home. I thoroughly enjoyed a nice long soak in their antique copper bath tub. My only regret was not being able to eat more of Anyes' wonderful baking, due to prior breakfast plans, but seriously, the bread is amazing. In addition, there are plenty of the sweetest home-grown raspberries from Anyes' garden! I couldn't recommend their home enough to fellow airbnb travellers. Their motto is "we treat our guests as we treat our friends" (paraphrasing) I certainly felt this to be the case. Thank you for a memorable trip!

The Dusty Victorian is simply a gem. Anyes and Brian are exceptional hosts, caring, refined and generous. It was a privilege to be their guests. The beauty of our surroundings, the attention paid to every detail, every single object carefully picked and then cared for with love... even fresh raspberries from the garden! For a moment we thought we had left this earth and gone to heaven. Note to self: would make a great writer's retreat!

Loved staying with Anyes and Brian! They really did go above and beyond what I expected at a bnb. As a first time traveler out of the country, I felt comfortable and excited to be there. I felt like royalty from walking in until having to say goodbye. I hope to come back as soon as I'm in Canada again!

I’m a fashion designer by trade, but have left the industry and a very busy city life behind to return to my first love, the arts. I now live an artful town and country life with my husband, daughter, two dogs and little birds. I'm an animal lover, I also love gardening (even if my back doesn't) and I love my old house. They are a wonderful source of inspiration for my work. A century house requires a lot of attention and is a work in progress, but it's a great hobby. My previous job as a fashion designer took me to the most glamorous cities around the world. It's great to travel for work, but I'm looking forward to traveling for pure enjoyment. My husband Brian is a writer, editor and book collector - you will see this by the tremendous amount of books we have. My daughter Astrid is also an artist and a voracious reader. A perfect example of the fruit falling near the tree.
The Dusty Victorian offers you the opportunity to stay at a very well preserved Victorian home, owned by warm and welcoming people. Art, literature, current affairs and dogs are always topics of conversation. Your bedroom will be clean, comfortable - and simply, but tastefully decorated. You will be treated like we would treat friends.
