In the images, the apartment appears to be quite clean and spotless. In general, my actual bedroom and the shared dining area were clean, but the main problem was the kitchen. The refrigerator contained moldy food stuffed in every corner and the sink and stove area clearly had not been cleaned for quite some time. The bathrooms were very dirty--the tiles, sink, and toilet were lined with mildew. There were odors coming out from every pipe. Additionally, the home is much smaller than it appears.
While all of that was bearable, what I found truly appalling was that when guests left, no one ever came to clean up spaces. When a new guest had arrived to stay in the same room as me (without notice, I might add), the other two spots had not been cleaned, despite the fact that over a week had passed since their departure. Upon arrival, the new guest had to sleep in a used bed, in an area that still had the trash of the previous guests.
Communication & Check-in:
The host provided good image directions to get to the home. However, he never gave me a door code. I assumed that he would be meeting me to help me move in, but I received no help, and had to wait outside the door knocking, without any certainty that I was at the right location. Thankfully, current residents opened the door for me, but there was no guarantee that they would have been home at that time.
The host also failed to communicate to me that a male would be arriving to share my room, before I left. I personally didn't mind sharing a room with him, but it was a shock to be randomly met with a guest without prior notification. I also felt extremely sorry for the guest, who was left just as confused as I was when I arrived.
Although it wouldn't have been necessary if the host had communicated properly from the beginning, I never ended up meeting him or receiving any substantial help from him.
The price is relatively good, but if you're looking for a better deal in South Korea, more personal space, and cleaner facilities, I would recommend looking into goshiwons. Before moving out, I found a goshiwon that was much, much cleaner, had the same amenities and then some, and was cheaper per month.
Location is great. It's located very closely to the Ehwa station, and surrounded by conveniences just a few steps away. Something I wish I knew was that despite this, the apartment is located on a very steep hill, with two flights of stairs, making transporting luggage very difficult alone.
