Heavenfield Cottage is a beautifully renovated, farm building conversion offering excellent quality accommodation. This attractive property gives guests the unique opportunity to stay quite literally on top of Hadrian’s Wall, and boasts some of the original Roman wall stones within its construction. Set on the owner’s 220-acre working farm, which has some of the best views of the area and fantastic walking opportunities, Heavenfield Cottage is located at St Oswald’s Farm, 2 miles from the village of Wall. The farm is built upon Hadrian’s Wall itself, and lies a stones’ throw from St. Oswald’s Church which is believed to be the location where King Oswald (604-642) raised a large wooden cross before the Battle of Heavenfield (AD635), and marks the end point of the popular walking route, St Oswald’s Way.
Renovated throughout, Heavenfield Cottage is a real gem of a place to stay. Warm, comfortable and absolutely packed with interesting original features, it has plenty to offer. Providing luxury accommodation, it has a large open plan living room and kitchen area, along with a wood burner, exposed stone walls, original beams and underfloor heating. The kitchen is contemporary, practical and of excellent quality offering good quality appliances. The spacious master bedroom boasts a super kingsize bed. The bathroom is definitely ideal for those long romantic nights in, with a double ended bath and a walk-in rain forest shower, you may find yourself never wanting to leave! Outside, there is parking for 1 car and a garden with sitting-out area, furniture and BBQ. Whatever the weather and at all times of year, Heavenfield Cottage is a warm and welcoming place to stay and was a Gold Award winner at the 2018 North East Tourism Awards.
For those who enjoy walking or cycling, the property lies on the historic Military Road. Explore the major sites along Hadrian’s Wall, where some small pieces still remain within walking distance. Just 30 minutes’ away lies Chesters Roman Fort and Museum, Vindolanda, Brocolitia, The Roman Army Museum at Housesteads and Corbridge Roman Fort, and the beautiful Lanercost Priory and Birdoswald are just a little further on. The popular market town of Hexham, 5 miles, has a majestic abbey dating back to AD674 with a visitor centre. There is also a vibrant art scene, Old Gaol, cinema, theatre, local market, and a choice of parks together with a lovely blend of quirky independent shops and high street favourites. Guests will be spoilt for choice when it comes to dining out or enjoying a relaxed drink with a huge range of cafes and restaurants, making Heavenfield Cottage the perfect spot for a romantic break or those celebrating a special occasion. The villages of Allendale, Blanchland and Corbridge, all 30 minutes’, each have their own unique charming character and offer independent shops, galleries, cafes, restaurants and walking routes to discover.
