Description

5 minutes from anywhere in Presidio, La Casita sits on 5 acres bound by the City on the North and the defunct railroad tracks on the south. Two other residences on property, this is a very private little estate. A cute little piece of history!

According to Mrs Ornelas, this house was built by her husband's, Tom, grandfather, Pedro Baeza, around the 1890's. It features the original roof/ceiling made of cotton wood beams, wood slats and adobe, called "viga and lata" in Spanish. It has been remodeled recently to convey more of a feeling of a hotel room of the 1890's. It sits on a 5 acre wooded estate, full of birds and small animals, has a view of the mountains in Mexico and spectacular sunrises.

The guest will be able to come and go as they please, hike the woods or maybe cut trails first, and then hike the woods. It also has it's own washer and dryer and store room with a bike to borrow.

I pride myself on knowing a lot of the history of Presidio and the venues and activities in South Presidio County, I am always happy to share my knowledge, tho' one may have to follow me around as I attend to many chores. I am gathering tourist information to leave in the guest quarters.

We know everyone in the neighborhood. It sits down along a the strip of small estates know locally as the "ranchitos".

There is taxi service to and from Ojinaga. A lender bicycle is included with the casita.

After dark, it get's very quiet except for all the animals and birds singing.
We have coffee and creamers..but we stopped trying to leave food (it usually just went bad)

Règlement intérieur

Leave it as you found it..... but you don't have to make the bed (we wash the sheets after every guest anyway) or pick up the used linen

Todd was a great host and took the time one afternoon to give me a walking tour of his land, which is just 2 miles from the Mexico border. From up on a levee we were able to see over into Mexico/mountains, and I got an interesting talking-tour of the history of the area, which is a fascinating story of indigenous Mexican Indians, Spanish conquistadors, Apache and Comanche Indian raids, U.S. - Mexican trade routes, silver mines, American ranchers, railroads and more. A quiet, beautiful, and simple town that has seen a lot of change over the centuries, yet surrounded by the unchanging desert and mountains of the borderlands. A great location for day trips into Big Bend Ranch state park, Mexico, and up the Rio Grande.

This rental is perfect for me. It is well provided with essentialsfor an extended stay. The bed is most comfortable and the linens provided are of high quality, as are the Aveda products for the bath. Limited meals are easy to prepare as well as a BBQ for grilling. Both heating and cooling are provided. The house is typical adobe with vigas and latillas with dirt roof. Little front porch shaded by large palm is delightful in late evenings.

Todd's place is an authentic adobe house full of character. As an architect, I can tell you there are not many dwellings like this one left on American soil. It was the perfect place to stay for our motorcycle trip back and forth to Mexico and added to our rich cultural experience. Todd is great guy who happens to be bilingual. Probably the best airbnb host I've encountered to date. Not only did he ensure a comfortable stay for us, he went above and beyond the call of duty to help me search for my lost phone in Mexico.

The cabin was very cozy and in a convenient location. Needs some repairs. There was not a stove - just an electric burner. Our host Todd said he removed the old one and is looking for another. He was very helpful and arrived as soon as we got there to help set up the heaters since we were there in late December. Todd checked in with us each day to see if we needed anything. He also cut up firewood for the mesquite grill and gave us several suggestions for exploring the local region. In fact, his wife stopped by the first night and invited us to go to dinner with them. If you're looking for luxury you won't find it here - but you will find a West Texas adobe cabin with lots of character, convenient location and a friendly host.

Enjoyed my second stay at the casita, brief again, in at dark and out at dawn. This is a good jumping-off place for Big Bend Ranch State Park.
