I booked a week-long trip to Guadeloupe for my girlfriend as a surprise birthday/graduation gift and decided to rent a place in Le Gosier because of its central location on the island.
Mickael's place is a traditional bungalow that is perfect for a couple looking to explore the whole of Guadeloupe. With the use of a rental car, my girlfriend and I were able to easily explore the island in its entirety, including day trips to Deshaies, Bouillante, and St. Claude on Basse-Terre and St. Francois and St. Anne on Grande-Terre. The apartment is a also a short drive from Pointe-a-Pitre and the airport (Mickael even provided detailed, illustrated directions so we wouldn't get lost!), as well as all the other necessities (gas, groceries, pharmacy, etc.). To top it all off, the bungalow is less than a five minute walk to La Datcha beach, as well as a good number of food stands, restaurants, and even a couple nightclubs (a little further down the road, weekends only), all of which tended to stay open later than many of the other options elsewhere on the island--perfect for late-night meals or drinks after a return from adventuring around the island.
On the amenities: There is a simple yet functional kitchen (perfect for those on a budget--or just a tight schedule--to prepare some of their own meals), the bathroom has a washing machine available for use, the AC in the bedroom is cold, and the Wi-Fi is fast. There's even one or two English-speaking channels on TV for those of us whose French is lacking. No complains all around.
As for our host, Mickael was absolutely incredibly. He lives nearby and would check in regularly by phone ((SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN)) to ensure we were having a pleasant stay. He allowed us to list his phone number in case any of our booked activities (scuba diving, horseback riding) had last-minute cancellations (our cell service was nil on the island), and he even offered to take us on a tour to one of the local waterfalls; unfortunately, our schedule was just too full to take him up on the offer this time around. He knows the area and was a great contact to have on an altogether unfamiliar island.
All in all, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would definitely visit again.
