We loved our stay at De Kortekeer and were made to feel very welcome by Danny and Mariese. The apartment is bright, spacious and very well equipped. Well represented by the photographs, but actually bigger than it appears. Access is via a separate entrance up an external staircase into an entrance hall, and then up another flight of stairs to the living area, which is all on one level.
We had our dog with us as the kennel was full, but this was no problem, provided you advise Danny in advance. You should be aware though that there is a Eur10/night charge for a dog and that there are cats on the property. This was not a problem for us though.
At the foot of the outside stairs, is a small, well-kept garden for use by guests (although Mariese was quite happy for us to explore the rest of the lovely garden). Danny was kind enough to provide us with the use of his BBQ (including charcoal and other accouterments) and we enjoyed some lovely dinners al fresco.
The location is very convenient from an access point of view. A few minutes from the picturesque villages of Zonnebeke and Beselare and only about 15 minutes from Ieper (Ypres). However, this convenience does come at a cost, as the location is a couple of hundred meters from the highway on one side, and close to a less-busy secondary road on the other. With the Velux windows open, the drone from the highway is noticeable, although we did not find it excessively intrusive. However, if absolute peace and quiet is a must for you, this might not be for you (which is a great shame, as it was otherwise lovely).
One other small annoyance was the presence of mosquitoes, although we (belatedly) found an electronic mosquito repellent device in the sideboard and some insect spray in the entrance hall cupboard which helped a lot.
However, none of the above detracted significantly from a lovely stay. I would highly recommend De Kortekeer if you are planning a trip to West Flanders.
