We are Karen and Alex Alho. Karen is a transplant from the U.S. and Alex is a transplant from the Alentejo region of Portugal. In a previous life we ran a Portuguese restaurant near New York City and owned an antique shop in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia, not far from Washington D.C. where Karen was raised. In addition Alex has had a number of different careers in various parts of the world, among them chef, contractor and seaman. Karen is a retired ESL professor who has also worn a number of different hats over the years. We gave up snow and snow shovels eleven years ago to come to the Algarve and year round flowers. Currently Alex has a nursery featuring local and tropical plants and lots of work! Please note that in addition to the languages listed, Alex is fluent in Spanish, having spent many years in Venezuela.
