Échanges avec les voyageurs
Since the nest is secluded from the main house, we always leave a welcome note, keys and associated information for our guests. Once guests have settled in, we like to introduce ourselves and answer any questions.
Although the Nest is designed to be self-contained and private, guests are always welcome to stop by our house. The main house has two B&B rooms, so the front door is always open!
We are located on one acre of coastal forest, 5 km south of Tofino and a 5 minute walk from South Chesterman Beach. Thriving on the temperate climate and moist ocean air, life here is lush and vibrant. Our home and nearby Cedar Nest cabin are nestled into sunny spots and surrounded by a brilliant emerald green landscape. Pacific redcedar and western hemlocks create a natural amphitheater above a ground level collage of shrubs, ferns and mosses. We feel lucky to be a part of this niche, buffered from the elements, yet a short walk away from the wildness that makes this place so special.
Tofino has a number of transportation services for visitors. Local ground and water taxis, regional buses, boat rentals and a variety of guided services are available.
Since the area is relatively flat, the bicycle is our favorite way to get around. You can rent a variety of types of bikes for a reasonable rate.
A brief history:
Owner, Sabine Hotz first saw Tofino in 1982 and eventually purchased the land in 1997. She spent a year camping on the property, helping a local master builder design her home. Starting with a small footprint, the ingenious layout integrates two split levels that take advantage of light and forest views. Two bed and breakfast rooms are located on the ground floor, personal living spaces wind up three levels above. By 1999, Sabine started Emerald Forest B&B and has since welcomed guests from over 25 countries!
Sometime in the rainy season 2002, Sabine decided to build a small studio in a sunny clearing. As with many ideas, the project expanded a bit and a mere 7 years later, the studio idea had grown into a post and beam cedar cabin with full amenities, stand up loft and wrap around porches. She named it 'Cedar Nest' as it is a cozy, protected place to retreat and reinvigorate one's appreciation of this place.
As a Tofino resident of 20 years, we can help you plan your visit to the outer coast. After many years as a world traveller, she appreciates how a little help with local knowledge goes a long way when exploring a new area. From land to sea, she can offer ideas for activities based on your needs and interests. Additional resources regarding the area are easily found on-line.
We want guests to enjoy themselves, be safe and respect the place as they would their own home.
We love animals, but other guests have allergies so we do not allow visiting pets. Sorry!
For health, smell and fire danger, we do not allow smoking inside any structure on the property. Outdoor smoking is permitted.
