Autres remarques

The cottage faces the sunset, Blue Hill Mountain and Newberry Neck across the inter-coastal ocean area of Union River Bay. The confluence of fresh and salt water create an interesting habitat for wildlife. A small set of wooden stairs steps down to a typical rich Maine tidal zone.
At low tide rocks draped in thick tangle of yellow-green and brown-purple seaweeds (rockweed) surround our pebble beach and are an important part of our coastal ecosystem. The shore also has mussels and nooks for beach combing and exploring. A year-round brook empties into the Bay on the south side of the property and encourages birds and other wildlife to visit the property.
A large deck and the balcony off the second-story bedroom are great places to picnic or for sitting still and enjoying songbirds, ducks, loons, gulls, eagles, on occasion some wild turkeys, squirrels, even seals, and osprey, depending on the time of year.

Our guests agree not to smoke in the house, light fires, or use fireworks on the property. The Cleaning fee is usually $200 and may be as high as $300. There is a refundable security deposit that ranges from $200 to $600 depending (as does the cleaning fee) on the size of the group and pets. If the cleaning fee is $175 we charge $40 and hour for any cleaning over 4.5 person hours. Guests agree to put a load of sheets in the washer and their garbage in the dumpster. We charge extra for cleaning up after pets including hair etc, on our property as well as our neighbor's.

This place is so beautiful and well-equipped. The perfect place to come home to after a day exploring the Mt. Desert area. The only thing that could have made it better would be a screen enclosure around part of the deck to keep out the mosquitoes. I doubt that would survive a Maine winter, though.

From the moment we pulled up to the Bayside Cottage we were blown away! The house is far enough away from the neighboring houses that it took us a little while to realize they were there. There are two benches by the water along the edge of land on the same level of the house overlooking the water with a sturdy staircase leading down to the rocky shore. We enjoyed many walks along the rocky water's edge during our stay. Loons and other wildlife were seen during our week at the cottage and each day was beautiful there whether it was sunny or inclement weather. The deck is set with patio furniture and a grill we enjoyed using. Inside the cottage, the house is wonderfully equipped with everything we would need. A moment after we found ourselves needing something, we found it. Most everything seems to be thought of including night lights, toothbrush holders, cozy blankets by the TV area, etc. The beds and bedding were so comfortable, we noted some of the companies used to possibly purchase the same in the future. The views out of the windows facing the water were gorgeous and the evening sunlight floods into the windows beautifully. My only suggestion to guests is to bring an eye mask to block out the sunlight that comes in all the bedroom windows closest to the ceiling (the only ones that cannot be blocked - all lower windows have blinds). This also woke our almost two year old at the early Maine sunrise of 4:30am during our stay, so maybe adding something to block the upper windows, if desired, would be great to have. It was truly a home away from home for the week, that we did not want to leave when the week was over. Jay was wonderful to work with and always responded very quickly to any messages we sent. The location of the cabin was perfect for us, because it gave us the seclusion we wanted to be away from all the traffic of MDI in a beautiful location, but still a very quick drive to Bar Harbor and the entrance of Acadia National Park. We look forward to the chance to come back to Bayside Cottage and hope the word of how wonderful this place is does not travel too far, so we can still get a reservation!

Super charming house, on a lovely, private setting, and fully stocked—this place offered everything you’d want for a relaxing getaway . The wood “cabiny” interior walls made for a soft, inviting feel. There were great views of the bay from all the rooms, across a grassy clearing, with well-placed trees. Very spacious, and with an open “great room” configuration linking kitchen, dining area and cozy living room. We loved all the stocked book shelves! Deck looking out onto the bay was a great bonus, and we had fun grilling nightly. The privacy was terrific—well in from the road, and separated from other houses by woods, so the beach seemed all your own. Terrific sunsets and walks on the beach, especially at low tide. Kayaking was a real highlight. The house was an easy half hour drive or so from most of the hikes, etc. that we wanted to visit in and around Acadia and Bar Harbor. The owners/caretakers were immediately responsive when we had a question about how to light the grill. We totally recommend this house!

We just returned from a one week visit to Bayside Cottage and thoroughly enjoyed our stay! The home is lovely and situated in a great location. Surrounded by woods on 3 sides, the front view overlooking the bay is breathtaking! The home is comfortable with plenty of room for a family. We appreciated all of the amenities in the home including tons of books and sightseeing brochures as well as many basic items. In fact, we found some items in the home not mentioned on Airbnb such as hangers and an iron. We found Jay very responsive when booking the reservation, answering questions and even checking in with us mid-week to ensure everthing was going well! The caretakers added a personal touch with flowers on the table for our arrival! Thanks, Jay and we can't wait to return on our next visit to Maine!

We had a wonderful stay at this cottage. Everything we needed to make a home for a week was ready for us. When we needed help on one thing Jay took care of it immediately. We cooked in for breakfast and dinner - so convenient; we also used the outdoor grill. There is a large grocery store nearby and some really great seafood markets of course. The views of the bay with the tide out and the sunsets from the deck are spectacular. We saw seals and red foxes from the back yard. It is also a very private property which is nice. It's easy to stay connected here if you need that. The internet service was flawless and the DVR was a nice convenience - even on vacation. We only had 4 people at the house but there is plenty of room for more. Highly recommended.

What an incredible cabin! Upon arrival there was a fresh bouquet of flowers on the kitchen table and the cabin was spotless. We spent the majority of our trip hiking in Acadia which was a short (20 min) drive away. While we were at the cabin we saw plenty of wildlife - turkeys, eagles and crabs. Our kids loved picking up seashells in the bay. We absolutely loved our vacation and can't wait to come back to Maine and this cabin.

Native to Bar Harbor Maine transplanted to Portland Oregon where I run a non-profit called Still Standing Oregon, which we created to advocate for measures that increase the market value of seismically retrofitted homes. It turns out that extremely liberal Oregon is not as farsighted as one might think regarding planning for the risks associated with a major earthquake. My wife and I vacation in places on the water. We love to kayak.
