Your space comprises the entire downstairs (master bedroom and modern en-suite, entrance hall, formal lounge room and front verandah of an early 1900s classic Federation ‘gentleman’s residence'. It has panoramic views of the Derwent toward Wrest Point and Mt Nelson. It is conveniently located (about 800 meters SW of the CBD and 70 meters above sea level - low for much of Hobart). It's an easy stroll to much of what Hobart offers (that’s an awful lot, these days!).

Le logement
Although Peter's space (upstairs) connects to yours by an open staircase, you will have complete privacy downstairs. The space is suitable for one person, or a couple, but not children. The bedroom has a queen size double bed with a new Koala mattress, built-in wardrobes and a contemporary en-suite with bath and shower. Rooms are heated.

Fresh linen, towels and face washers, pump-pack body and hand cleansers, tissues and toilet paper are included. If you have forgotten something, or need something special, please ask - I can probably help.

A small fridge, toaster, kettle, capsule coffee machine (incl. capsules), tea and tea pot nestle in the corner of the lounge room. Breakfast supplies provided include juice, fruit muesli, milk, Zum artisan bread for toast, and Peter’s seasonal jams. Ask if there is something special you would like, and I will try to oblige. Clean plates, cups, glasses, cutlery etc are provided as needed (i.e., you don’t do any washing-up). If you want a cooked breakfast (or superior coffee) you have the choice of Hamlet or Pigeon Hole cafes nearby (5 minutes walk). There are lots of others cafes in the CBD - ask Peter.

The house was a ‘renovator’s delight’ when Peter and his late wife, Katie, purchased it in 1991. For quarter of a century, at various times it was home for them, their four children, three dogs and two cats. By the way, it is a pet-free household these days. At the rear is an eclectic cottage garden and guests are welcome to wander through this area, use the decks (a beautiful sunny spot for breakfast), and graze on Peter’s seasonal fruit and veg. Btw the garden is accessed via outside steps.

I have a small secure space for bags if you need to leave them earlier on check-in day, or little longer on check-out day.

Smart TV, internet access, and a streaming service are provided. A small library, including the current Tasmania Lonely Planet guide and other tourists guides, are provided for your use. Peter is happy to provide his own suggestions and let him know if you have a particular interest (e.g. local geology) - he might be able to help.

An iron and board are available, and let Peter know if you want to do a load of washing.

Btw I run an LGBTI-friendly establishment.

Accès des voyageurs
Like many Hobart homes, there will be steps involved (from the road to front door, and up into the garden), so check with Peter if you think this might be a problem.

Autres remarques
Please note parking is outside on the street. My home is on the fringe of Hobart town, so from Monday to Friday between 8 am and 5 pm parking is time limited (2 hours) but NOT metered. However, if you have a car and need to leave it for the day, there is free ‘all day’ parking just a few tens of meters further up the road. It is simply a matter of being sure to park in one of these spots the evening before the day you want to leave your car.

There is easy access to the Hobart Rivulet track by pedestrian steps just near the house. The Rivulet Track is a must-do early morning or early evening walk connecting Collins St and CBD to Cascade Brewery and the ‘Female Factory’ World Heritage convict historical site.

I am a 'retired' academic geologist/geochemist from the University of Tasmania. However, I remain associated with UTas and pursue some active research projects. I enjoy travel, gardening, reading, music and eating. I used to tell my students I was a time traveller, because that is what geologist do! Rocks are the books telling stories of past ages. You just need know how to read them. I am always happy to talk about how Tasmania's geology is manifest in spectacular landscapes that draw visitors from all parts of the world. I have a number of life mottos. These include: 'shit happens, then you die' 'no good deed goes unpunished' & 'the older I get, the better I was'.
