Où se situe le logement

Cornillon, Occitanie, France

Markets in France are an integral way of local life and are held in most villages. It is a good way to embrace the French way of living and a visit to Uzes market (40 mins drive, 31km) is a must on Saturday morning and takes over the whole of this beautiful Duchy town. Cobbled streets, interesting shops, galleries and artisan bakeries make it a memorable visit. Taste your way around the market! Stay for lunch at one of the many excellent restaurants and make a day of it!

La Roque sur Ceze (15 mins drive, 7.6km) is named as one of the most beautiful villages of France and is a perched village looking over vineyards towards the Ceze river. Here, also, are the Cascades du Sautadet, which are a favourite with the locals for sunbathing during the summer months and are a real spectacle after a heavy rainfall.

Barjac (20 mins drive, 19 km) is famous for its collectors’ markets, especiallly antiques, which are held in April and August. It is a pretty village with restaurants and shops and a local market is held there every Friday morning.
Aigueze (25 mins drive, 23km) is a pretty medieval village (also named as one of the most beautiful villages of France), with shops and good restaurants and fine views towards the Ardeche gorges.

Aven Grotte La Forestiere at Orgnac L’Aven, (25 mins drive, 20km) is a natural cave and is quite spectacular. Families can enjoy an interesting walk in the cave viewing crystals and stalagmites. It is well worth a visit.

Avignon (55 mins drive, 49.5km) is a chic city and a visit to The Palais des Papes (Popes’ Palace) is a must. The Pont d’Avignon is well known and was the inspiration for the song Sur le pont d’Avignon and is considered a landmark in the city. It is a designated World Heritage Site. Park and Ride (usually free) just outside the walls at Ile Piot is essential as there is limited parking near the city.

Orange (45 mins drive, 44.5km) is renowned for its Roman architecture and has a fine Roman amphitheatre, Triumphal Arch of Orange, and was listed in 1981 as a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Nimes (1hr 10 mins drive, 73km) has well-preserved Roman monuments such as the Arena of Nimes which is still in use today for concerts and bullfights. Both the Pont du Gard aqueduct and the Maison Caree white limestone Roman temple are around 2000 years old. Good shopping.

Further on from Nimes you will find Arles (1hr 20mins drive from Cornillon, 106km). Arles was once a provincial capital of ancient Rome and is known for many fine remains from that era including an amphitheatre (les arenes d’Arles) which hosts plays, concerts and bullfights. Arles was also the inspiration for many of Van Gogh’s paintings and there is an interesting Van Gogh walking tour available through the Arles Tourist Centre. Arles is also the gateway to the Camargue known for its white horses, pink flamingos and local black bulls which are the emblem of the Camargue. The Camargue Natural Regional Park is worth looking in to for nature lovers.

If visitors would like a day by the coast, Aigues Mortes (1.30 mins, 113 km) is a charming medieval walled city. It is quaint and very picturesque and a walk round the ramparts gives great views over the sea and city. Good shopping and many restaurants. A little further along is Le Grau du Roi, another picturesque port by the sea with many restaurants and gift shops.
