Description

7 blocks from Santo Domingo & the heart of Centro, our apartment has a unique exposed brick design, artisan textiles and an organic garden with relaxing patio for you, your family & friends to call home during a visit to our beautiful vibrant city.

We love our home so much that when the downstairs flat became available, we jumped at the opportunity to rent it, too! Now we are so pleased to be sharing it with new friends who want to experience this amazing city of ours. We have filled the apartment with Oaxacan artisan treasures including antique huipiles, textiles, pottery and glassware. Decorating has been a fun scavenger hunt for the colorful, quirky and cozy. We'd love to point you towards some of our favorite artisans and artisan-oriented tours so you can score some beautiful pieces of your own!

The jewel of our space is the outdoor patio & garden. The organic garden is filled with greens, herbs, root vegetables, agave and flowers. It is adjoined by a spacious patio with dining table, vintage string lights & a hammock. We also have yoga mats available for a garden practice in the cool morning breezes!

Both bedrooms* have large (almost floor-to-ceiling) windows overlooking the patio that let in generous light in the morning -- but have no fear! We also have blackout curtains if you want to enjoy a vacation morning lie-in! The beds are dressed with 100% cotton linens and Oaxacan blankets & pillows.

*Please note that you must walk through one bedroom to get to the second and that the two bedrooms are separated by a wall and a set of accordion doors. There is an additional accordion door to separate the front bedroom from the living space.

The open kitchen allows you to socialize with friends in the living room while preparing a meal. We've stocked it with your first morning's pot of Oaxacan organic coffee as well as cooking basics -- oils, spices, vinegars and a few grains. When we welcome you, we'll make sure to point you in the right direction to get fresh tortillas down the block as well as fruits, vegetables, meats & pantry items at the neighborhood market.

The entire apartment is yours to enjoy. This apartment is used exclusively for visiting friends and AirBnB guests so it is equipped for maximum comfort during your stay.

Note: we will need to access the garden to maintain it and to harvest -- we are happy to share our bounty! We will coordinate times that are convenient to you to ensure your privacy and relaxation.

I live right upstairs with my 4 year old daughter. I work from home so am often available to personally assist with any issues or answer question about the apartment or things to do in Oaxaca. We also provide a basic cellphone for guests to use to contact us, call taxis or connect with friends. (Guests are asked to add prepaid minutes to the phone if the credit runs out. Details are in your welcome kit.)

For visiting families with young children, we are happy to lend toys and books (in English and/or Spanish) to help keep your little ones entertained! We have a sturdy tricycle to lend as well as a kids' table for the garden. We also have a special section in our guidebook just for kids! AND there is a fun (secret!) park just half a block away!

This is a working class neighborhood located between downtown (Centro) and the Guelaguetza auditorium that overlooks the city. We get a lovely breeze from being situated a bit above the city but can still get to everything in Centro in 15 minutes. There are 2 small stores with necessities at the end of our block and a larger open market just 4 blocks away. We are within easy walking distance of organic Oaxacan coffee shops, food options that range from sidewalk stands to 4-star restaurants and an endless rotation of traditional Oaxacan celebrations, parades, and fiestas.

We are just 6 blocks *down* to Centro -- meaning it is a 6 block walk back *up* to the house. For those with mobility issues, consider that it is a steady incline to get home. It isn't brutal -- we do it every day, often loaded down with groceries, scooters & school books! -- but is something to consider when renting.

Many buses that will take you around Oaxaca as well as to neighboring towns/junctions pass by just 2 blocks away. This is also a good intersection catch taxis. We will also provide you with a number to call for front-door taxi pickup service.

Included in your rental:
・local cellphone + a landline in the apartment (guests pay for usage on honor system)
・WIFI
・Thunderbolt iPad/iPhone charger
・cleaning services for stays longer than 3 nights
・drinking water delivery
・gas for hot water & cooking

・2 double beds + a spare single mattress and couch for up to 6 guests
・2 desk spaces
・100% cotton towels & bed linens
・cooking oils, vinegars, a selection of spices and grains
・colorful locally-sourced kitchen pottery
・cookware + a blender, toaster oven & coffee maker as well as the usual kitchen gadgets such as a lime squeezer, cork screw & bamboo utensils

・locally made shampoo, bodywash, organic toothpaste
・insect repellent (we use a locally-made all-natural insect repellent to great success but if you find yourself to be particularly popular to mosquitoes, you might want to bring a stronger repellent of your choice)

Règlement intérieur
Non fumeur
Pas de fête ni de soirée

・No smoking indoors please.
・This is a family neighborhood. Please be respectful of our wonderful neighbors and no loud noise after 10 on weekdays, after midnight on weekends.
・We allow small pets -- but only if we are advised before your arrival. We do have 2 cats that live with us but that occasionally sunbathe on the patio. Please let us know of allergies so we can corral them upstairs.

I am a compassionate vegan and am very passionate about progressive education, human rights and technology access for everyone.

I have spent a lot of my life as a nomad -- living in New York City, New Orleans, Boston, Lake Victoria (Africa) and Zihuatanejo, Mexico. Today, I call Oaxaca "home" and I finally feel ready to settle down. I bought a green couch and a chandelier! I'm staying a while!

I really love traveling alone and getting lost for a day or two. I also love traveling with my 4-year-old musical & merry daughter who is just as excited about the world and its possibilities as I am.

We are really thrilled to be growing our AirBnB experience by becoming hosts. It will be just like traveling to meet new people but we get to stay home with our 2 cats, Amaranta & Cúrcuma, too!
