Le logement

Bedroom has a great closet, hardwood floors, a new double bed, new mattress and dresser, lovely Pottery Barn linens and Restoration Hardware Silver Sage paint. It's a serene, very clean room - with a closet and a bonus room office that holds all your belongings and luggage - and reduces visual clutter in your bedroom. The bathroom has a tub and shower and is in perfect shape. The house is only 8 years old, so everything is clean - NO MOLD or musty areas - unlike many of the older houses in this damp Asheville climate. Are you worried about privacy? Your room and private bath are at one end of the house, separated from my bedroom by the bathroom and the office - quite private for an in-house room. Are you worried about safety? Bedroom is on first floor with huge window for easy exit in case of fire. It's also close to the front door. Definitely a safe place to stay.

I'm available to help make your visit a great one. I know the city, the neighborhoods and many of the venues you'll be visiting. I can also advise on hikes and their degrees of difficulty and closeness to Asheville. I also know fun, free, educational things to do on the parkway and downtown. Examples: great film on the building of the Blue Ridge Parkway shown continuously at the BRP Visitor's center on the parkway here in Asheville. Or the Folk Art Center -- juried arts and crafts for gifts, plus maps, etc. - close by on the parkway. There are many hikes along the Mountains to Sea trail. I have maps, books and have done all the trails so can advise on the ones that may interest you. There are plenty of other hikes not on the MST. If you're moving here, I'd be happy to give you a 45 minute drive around the town to give you an overview and some information about various neighborhoods.

I live in a modest West Asheville neighborhood, 1 mile from the hip-and-happening center of West Asheville. It is quiet but neighbors are close by. City lot sizes are 50 foot frontage by 100 feet. There's a beautiful, special yard and a cool screened-in porch -- plus a sheltered ground level deck ideal for eating/drinking, bird watching and garden visits.

Hiking is nearby. A good plan is to do one day downtown and one on the trails. There is really a hike for everyone along the Blue Ridge Parkway on the Mountains to Sea Trail, or at Graveyard Fields, or Black Balsam. (many more) I can help you plan a hike, print you a map and pack you some snacks. I'll lend you a pack, hiking poles -- even warmer clothing if it fits you. (Or check out Goodwill - right down the street - and pay about $5 for a warm jacket if you forgot yours.)

Accès des voyageurs

Your basic booking is for a room with a double bed and private full bath. You have access to the office for luggage storage. Other parts of the house are available.

Échanges avec les voyageurs

I am available and happy to spend some time with guests - usually at breakfast time. If you desire privacy that is just fine also. You shouldn't feel any pressure to socialize.

Autres remarques

I have one dog and one cat. Both well behaved and totally quiet.

Aim for quiet and reasonable behavior. But enjoy yourselves. A few rules: No cooking, no smoking, no burning candles - also definitely do not invite outside guests to socialize here. Remember absolutely no meal preparation - even left overs here. I serve a hearty breakfast and guests are expected to take their other meals outside of the house. There are fast food restaurants right down the street for the budget traveller. There are great, reasonably priced restaurants both in Asheville and in nearby West Asheville. I recommend the Sunny Point Cafe in West Asheville as a great place for lunch or dinner.

My husband and I truly enjoyed staying at Jean's. Her house is close to great restaurants and bars in West Asheville. She provided great suggestions for hiking, eating and drinking (giving us a great experience in W Asheville and downtown). The private room and bathroom are adorable and clean. Jean's breakfast was delicious and we loved our conversations with her in the mornings. Jean gives you complete privacy but is available if you need her. We will definitely stay here again in the future!

Too many wonderful things to say about Jean and her cozy home. The room was small but very clean and comfortable. The bath was private with all the amenities needed. Jean was helpful but respected our privacy. Breakfast was an added treat, as was her company (which we requested). We will definitely stay here again whenever we are in Asheville.

Jean's place was really fantastic! Not only is her home lovely, but she makes a mean breakfast! It is unusual to find a nice bed and breakfast for this price. She is also full of suggestions/advice to make your visit to AV special. We really enjoyed getting to know her!

We were looking for a place to be able to stay for one night that was a close uber trip away and that we would feel comfortable in. Jean's place exceeded our expectations and she was a great host! She gave us many helpful tips since we aren't familiar with the area and her breakfast was thoughtful and delicious.

From Boston, MA I've lived in Asheville for 10 Years. I was a Marketing Executive for Digital Equipment and, later, HP. My main interest in Asheville has been the Carolina Mountain Club - which is a rather vigorous hiking group - and one of the oldest clubs in the country. We maintain sections of the AT and the Mountains To Sea Trail, as well as lead hikes across Western North Carolina. I'm also a volunteer with Asheville Humane Society and an animal lover. Another big interest is gardening. And, to a small degree, home decor and home maintenance.

I'm friendly and cheerful and like to "go the extra mile".

In my 20-month career as an Airbnb host, I've driven people to interesting neighborhoods to give them a morning 90- minute tour and an overview of what kinds of houses and apartments are available. Or, I've driven my guests around just to just give them "the lay of the land" so they can explore what they like later in the day. I've enjoyed keeping their dogs happy here at my house and fenced-in yard, while they attended an event. I've provided guests with information on fun things to do in Asheville - like hiking information, things to do downtown and in West Asheville, including the fun La Zoom bus tour of Asheville. I've driven guests to the top of a trail head along the Mountains To Sea Trail so they could leave their car at the other end for a good one-way hike. I've also printed them maps and made a detailed printed plan for visiting the Blue Ridge Parkway and its Visitor's Center and Folk Art center and helped them select the right hike for their time constraints and ability level.

So, whether you are job hunting, house hunting, or here for fun and adventure, I can help you make the most of your visit. BTW, I've done a lot of international and domestic travel - sometimes staying at hotels for weeks at a time. Some were good but many were rather creepy - especially their rugs and bedspreads. Your room here has hardwood floors and every piece of bed linen, including liners and mattress pad is washed before every visit. Do I have a life motto? Hmmm. I guess it's Never Face The Facts. It has let me do a lot of "impossible" things.
