The pictures just don't capture the full beauty of this building and its suites. I stayed in the Pegasus suite which has wonderful lighting, a big comfortable bed, and lots of space. My wife came with me on the trip, so we appreciated the amount of room we had to work with. We had our own private veranda where I watched the morning unfold as a big snapping turtle made its way across the lawn into the large pond. Our private bathroom was almost as big as our actual room with a claw foot tub next to a big window, a separate, spacious walk in shower stall, double sinks, fire place, several mirrors and again lots of room. As a couple, it was an ideal space to get ready for the wedding that we attended at one of the local vineyards.
Shannon was an outstanding host. We arrived in the afternoon and made ourselves comfortable in the room and relaxed before heading to the wedding. Shannon was never intrusive and was very low key and flexible in meeting our needs. There is no stress in this household.
In the morning we mingled with the other guests as Shannon prepared a breakfast tailored to all of our needs and we ate on a large back porch, enjoying the fresh breeze and singing birds. Having breakfast with Shannon and the other guests felt more like waking up at a friends house and chatting in the kitchen while we cooked and ate, rather than something formal. With Shannon, everything is easy. If you wanted to just sit and wait for food, I'm sure she would have been just as accommodating. I preferred to chat with her as she is very well travelled.
The Gryphon is easy to find, has lots of parking and makes for a hassle free home away from home. You would pay three times as much to stay in a hotel that rivaled the ornamentation and grandeur of the fixtures that Shannon has assembled. If you enjoy the old world feel of an estate or manor, the Gryphon offers you the pageantry without the pomp.
Another bonus: Many BnB's in the area require a 2 night minimum stay during peak season. Shannon doesn't do this, which is one of the reasons we booked with her in the first place. We booked a single Saturday night as that was all we needed and Shannon was happy to accommodate us.
I will find excuses to come back here, and I would encourage anyone travelling in the area to go and experience the Gryphon.
