Our summer home is a beautiful country house with a large garden and a lovely panoramic view. It is situated in Nógrádsipek, a friendly small village about an hour's drive north of Budapest. It has been our family holiday home for the past 16 years. We have spent these years slowly renovating it and creating a comfortable home. It is very spacious, with 5 bedrooms (12 beds) and a kitchen, living room and bathroom on the ground floor. It is a perfect house for 1 or 2 families.

Le logement
Our detached house lays on a hill. In front of the house is a gallery and a terrace to sit and eat in the shade with a panoramic view. You can walk around the house to the back yard, or go upstairs and take the bridge which connects the back yard with the house. Here you find the swimming pool, trampoline and tree house and different spots to sit and relax.

It is the ideal house for a peaceful break, for a walk in the surrounding hills and forests, to pick wild blackberries or to spend afternoons reading. But for those who prefer an active holiday there are possibilities for serious hiking, mountain and road biking.

We have built a wonderful wood fired pizza oven next to a shady terrace where you can spend whole summer evenings making pizza’s and enjoy each others company.
Children will love to spend hours on our large trampoline or explore the tree house which is also a great place to spend the night. There is the option of putting up a temporary swimming pool (16m2) which is simple but a real treat in the summer. The 3 hammocks around the house are also a real summer delight. The house is at the end of the village and from the back yard it all nature with forest and fields.

Accès des voyageurs
Guests will have the house and garden entirely to themselves.

Autres remarques
In the village Nógrádsipek there are a couple of beekeepers. Our neighbors also keep bees. We never had any disturbance from the bees, but we give you this information in case of allergies. The honey is lovely and especially the acacia honey, which is available after May.

Nógrádsipek, Hongrie

Nógrádsipek is an attractive little village at the end of a 5 km long road, surrounded by hills and forests. At an hour's walk on unpaved roads through the countryside there is a small fishing lake, where it is possible to swim and fish.
Another nice walk in the cool shade of the forest is to a well called Doboskut situated in the middle of the forest. The water from this well is a favourite of the villagers who come here especially to collect the mineral water. The Doboskut has facilities to make a fire (BBQ) and provides a small hut to spend the night.

Another attraction is Hollókö (10 km), a 2-3 hour walk through beautiful flower-filled meadows. This village is on the list of Unesco World Heritage because of the castle and the traditional old farm houses. There is a nice restaurant and  various shops with local items. You can also arrive there by paved road; bike, car or public transport (about 25 km.)

Nógrádsipek has a small supermarket for the basic necessities, a post-office and a bar/cafe. Three times a week a bakery van passes by with fresh bread and delicious cakes. For a larger supermarket, shops and restaurants you can go to Szesceny, a town 10 km away which also hosts a castle museum. http://www.kubinyimuzeum.hu/en/

Another nice city is Balassagyarmat at 30 km, which offers a small market every morning (Mon - Sat) with fresh vegetables, flowers and local produce. There is a great old-fashioned swimming pool and you will also find shops, restaurants and tasty ice-cream.

Budapest (about 100 km by car or by public transport) is a great city to spend a day or more. It is full of historic sights and beautiful restaurants, markets and Museums. Wander in its parks or along the Donau, or to take a tram up the hill at the Buda-side for a spectacular view. There are too many interesting things to mention but google on your favorite activity and actual programs and you will find it all in Budapest.

I'm a Dutch artist (photography) and my husband Jeroen is an artist too (film and architecture). We love to travel with our 3 small children (Olivia 12, Vita 7 and Kay 6) but we can only do this during the school holidays. We like to visit different cultures and countries. Last christmas we were in India and we loved the people, the sun, the colors, the food and more…
