Description

Our small barn has been converted to a sweet little hideaway. Cosy, rustic, peaceful. We are in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Heritage steam railway (Bluebell Railway) walking distance. Sleeps 2 in mezzanine, plus 2 on sofabed.

Think of our barn as a log cabin - a big step up from camping, but it is not an immaculate country cottage, it is a converted barn. The bathroom and kitchen are basic, but the overall feel is cosy and comfortable. There is a mezzanine sleeping space up a steep flight of stairs. It is ideal for the young and/or agile as you have to clamber into it.
The sleeping space just holds a bed. But it is a brand new kingsize bed, with Egyptian cotton sheets and natural fillings for the pillows and duvets, so a comfortable night is assured.
If you're not feeling athletic we can make up the sofabed on the ground floor. The sofabed means we can also accommodate additional guests, perfect for a family.

We hope the photos we have posted give a good idea of its rustic appeal!

Wifi.
Sky TV with everything - Movies, Sports etc. DVD player with DVD's
As the photos show, the barn is next to our pool. You are welcome to have a swim if conditions permit.

We think that guests who come here will be looking for seclusion so the plan is to leave lots of information in the guestbook and leave our guests to their own devices as much as possible. But we love meeting our visitors, and very happy to chat and offer help where we can.

We live at the bottom of the hill of a picture postcard English hamlet. There is a church, but no shops or pubs nearby - bring walking boots - nearest of anything about half an hour. With a car it's easy. But our guests can enjoy the quiet of the barn, and our woods and a stream. It's not manicured, but it's pretty!

Lots of trees all around, and a beautiful restored steam railway down the road (The Bluebell Railway). You can actually travel all the way from London Victoria or London Bridge - picking up the Bluebell Railway at East Grinstead, and then we can - subject to availability - pick you up from Horsted Keynes.

More conventionally there is a frequent train service to Haywards Heath, and then a taxi. There are buses which go into town from the top of the road, but they are infrequent.

Plenty of parking. Easy to get here from Haywards Heath by taxi. For a few days you would be fine without a car as long as you enjoy walking...lovely half hour walk to Ardingly, Horsted Keynes or West Hoathly. All have nice pubs, and village shops.

Really important - there is no mobile signal in the barn. We are halfway down a hill, and facing another hill, so nothing gets through. There is a laptop with (website hidden), so you can communicate with the world that way. Or take your phone for a short walk along the road - 50 metres - when the signal comes on loud and clear. But if being able to be contacted by mobile is important then our barn will not be the best place for you.
As we are in a rural setting we occasionally get visits from fieldmice. We are scrupulous about keeping them away but sometimes one will get through, so if this would be a problem for you please don't book the barn. On a similar note, as you can see from the pictures it is an old wooden building with stone floors, so even though it is cleaned thoroughly after every guest the appearance is not one of pristine perfection such as you would get in a modern house.

I work from home as a business coach and my husband Simon commutes to London daily. We have 3 grown up children, and a sweet black Labrador - Teddy. We also have 2 elderly chickens and a cockerel, but that's the limit of our animal quota!
Whenever we travel anywhere now we always look for an airbnb listing first as it opens up so many possibilites whether we are travelling alone, as a couple, with our children or with friends. You really get to know a place when you stay through airbnb.
We love airbnb and it has been great fun meeting all the lovely people who have visited us and seeing them enjoy our barn, and the beautiful countryside around mid-Sussex.
We went to the airbnb conference in Paris in November and loved meeting hosts from all around the world. 2016 will be even more fun for us and our guests.
